FMGs applying to psych

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
theres at least a few of us on here

have you heard of any places that don't accept FMGs? I've heard that Stanford doesn't. Knowing which places don't or rarely accept FMGs would help me narrow down which places I should apply to...

I'm in the same boat, but here's my take on this question (which OPD can probably verify is asked on an annual basis in this forum).

There are quite a few "IMG/FMG friendly" programs out there, and obviously others that aren't. I think the best way to find out is to visit their websites and look at the current residents.

Scutwork.com has reviews on programs that sometimes provide that information. Also, I know the fmgamerica list is outdated and may thus be relatively inaccurate but it's still a somewhat useful list.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, that definitely helps.
Also, do you know of any FMGs that have gotten offers pre-match, since this is technically allowed if you are an IMG/FMG?

I do not personally know any FMGs that got offers pre-match, but I have not heard anything about FMGs not being allowed to take pre-match offers. In fact, my understanding is that pre-match offers are most useful and attractive for FMGs that need visas to train in the US (as opposed to AMGs or FMGs with Green Cards that do not need to worry about getting a training visa and can take their chances waiting for the Match.

I can only say about Stanford that they were the the only University out of top 5 programs in the US that sent me a *personalized* response to my enquiries, having actually read my letter. (I am an FMG). They said that they evaluate applicants on the individual basis, but prefer USMLE scores >90 on the first attempt. They also mentioned that they have had FMG residents in their programme.

If you apply to California, you need the PTAL, which is expensive and time-consuming to get - but you probably know about that.

I've got the same response from Stenford. It is nice, but I know it is very hard for IMG to get there.
I am old FMG, applyed to West coast, got just 1 iv from USC.
