How hard is a PharmD program if you try to just get by with B's and C's and don't try to be competitive with everyone and actually get to have a life too?

It isn't easy under any circumstance. A program like pharmacy will dampen your social life, even if you are getting C's the whole way through. If you are thinking you can put your friends and your social life at the top of your list during pharmacy school and get through it, you are simply mistaken. I would presume (and hope) the same is true for any medical professional program.

Pharmacy school eats their young. Easy to get in, hard to stay in. Fail a sequenced class and it will cost you a year. The class I graduated with started with 120 students in the P1 year losing 60 for year 2. Sixty new folks transferred in from elsewhere during years two and three, yet only sixty actually graduated with that class.

Food for thought.

I'd suggest looking up a recommended course schedule for the schools that you want to go to and see what they require for pharmacy. That will give you a pretty good idea as to what you're getting yourself into. And to tell you the truth, no profession in any field of medicine is meant to be easy or possible to "get by" for a reason. Yeah, there's the lucky few that test the limit, but I don't think anyone wants to purposefully straddle that line. Respectfully, do you want recieve treatment from a doctor who "just got by" in college?

For Example:

UT Austin's Pre-Pharmacy Recommended Curriculum

As a group of my friends believe, work your ass off now and party hardy later when you've got a secure job and no immediate threat of instant failure. (I.e. like failing one class and having it set you a whole year back *shudders*)

I have a life and I'm not competitive with others. However, I do spend a lot of time studying and I am getting by with mainly B's. I only have a handful of A's and only one of those was in a science class (microbiology/immunology). Everyone in my class is trying their best. You can't relax. Your exams will contain the smallest, insignificant detail from your text book or notes. If you can't memorize every detail, you've already eliminated the possibility of getting an A. If you grasp the concept, but don't memorize everything in sight, then you should be able to get a B. If you memorize everything, but don't understand the concept, you'll get a C.

I do spend about 2 hours a night, eating dinner with my husband and talking with him. Other than that, it's all school work. I do relax some on the weekends. I love to watch football on Sunday.
