I interviewed at PCOM today and they asked me what I'd do if I didn't get in. It kind of threw me off because I've already gotten into several schools. So, I said if I didn't get in, I'd re-take the MCAT because I think its a weakness of my application. In addition, I'd work at the hospital in my community because they've already offered me a job this summer and throughout my medical school years. And, I said I'd do research on why health outcomes are poorer for underserved areas since I want to be a FP in a rural underserved area.

Should I have mentioned the MCAT? I got a 25P. As soon as I said it, they all went searching through my application to look at my score. They just kind of gave me a look like "it's not that bad." They didn't ask anything else about the MCAT.

I was extremely nervous for some reason. I couldn't articulate a lot of responses very well and sometimes wondered how much sense I was actually making. This happen to anyone else?

lol were you one of those people that went up into gross lab today. I am very surprised the student leader took you in with cadav's open... don't want to give the newbies nightmares :scared:

ps.: i'm sure you did fine. to put your mind at ease they accept something like 70% of interviewees

Yeah, we went up to the gross anatomy lab. They showed us the conjoined twins in the jars and there was a man's head on the counter. Thank God I've done cadaver labs before, or I would have seriously been freaked out.

Thanks for the comforting advice. Hopefully it works out.

Doesn't sound like you botched it too bad. Good thing you didn't say "Yeah if I don't get in I'm just going to take one of my other acceptances HAHAHAHHAHA owned". They might not have responded well to that.

I ran into a similar situation where they asked me about that after I had been accepted to some places. I tried not to laugh and then went on a spiel about strengthening my app, but if it never happened I explained my career plans....usually get blank stares.

It's better to be straightforward and admit your faults rather than try to appear perfect. I think you will always come out ahead if you live your life this way. It doesn't sound like you hurt your application at all. I know people at PCOM who got in with lower MCATs. :luck:

dude(ett), theres nothing wrong with your answer. If you were hypothetically rejected from every school, then there would obviously be something wrong with your app. Very few people have a perfect application and there is always something that could be improved in one way or another. They basically just asked you to identify a weakness in your app and what you would do to fix it. Your answer was perfectly fine. I would have said the exact same thing in terms of retaking the MCAT. Its not that you (or I) have a bad score, but we both definitely could have done better and retaking it for a potential better score would definitely boost our application and put us over the hump to get that acceptance the next time around (in the hypothetical situation). You konw? Dont sweat it!
