For ERAS do we write a personal statement for each specific program?

I’m a little confused about how the personal statement portion works. Do we just write a generalized personal statement for our speciality and assign it to each program? Or do we write program specific personal statements per each program?

Curious on this as well. My plan was to have a generic letter written that overviews why I chose medicine and my speciality and more generic PS stuff. My last paragraph I was going to alter for specific programs. Like I will keep the generic last paragraph about wanting a strong clinical environment, good teachers, etc. for the programs I don't have super high intentions of going to. for the programs I really want I will alter that last paragraph to explain my ties to their region, why I wanna go there, etc.

Curious on other people's opinions.

I applied to ~50 programs. All I can say about writing 50 personal statements is f*** that. I wrote 1. Had no issues.

If you are super motivated, go for it. But I doubt a program is gonna care that you really love the city that it's in and that's why you want to be there

I think that’s probably unnecessary. The only situation where that might be something you do is if you have a very strong interest in a specific program. As mentioned above, you might keep the core of your PS the same while adding some specific reasons for your interest in that program. Going overboard and writing a new PS for each institution you’re applying to is probably overboard.

The multiple PS scenario is typically for people that are applying to multiple specialties.

If you do write multiple statements, be *VERY* careful that you assign the correct PS to each program. You don't want a PS addressing Harvard to go to University of Iowa instead.
