I go to NYCOM. The first year courses include anatomy and embryology, biochem, physio, genetics, histology, microbiology, neuroscience, general pathology, neuropathology, neurology, family practice and OMM. I suggest not buying any books beforehand. They hand out extensive notes for every class, sometimes negating the need to buy the book or even go to class. The only books you can start shopping for now, if you want, are Netters Anatomy Atlas, Moores Clinical Anatomy, and Robbins Pathology. These are your best friends more or less 1st year. You'll definitely use other books, but you can often buy them cheaper from upperclassmen. Some student organizations have book sales at the beginning of the year. I would suggest getting a laptop, but plenty of people survive without them. There's internet access at every seat in lecture and supposedly they're going to put streaming video of lectures on the web, (ie..you can watch lecture from home with a cable modem). NYCOM is really into CDs too, you'll get dozens by the end of the year. They're good for reviews of labs. There's a rumor that all first years will be given palm pilots next year too, but I havent heard specifics.
Enjoy yourself between now and then. Life changes come mid august.
