So I imagine I should definitely rewrite my PS, which had some problems to begin with, now that I think about it. But what about my activities/work experience? Should that be rewritten as well, considering it's all still true?

No, I have been told by many creditable sources that the only thing schools keep on you after that years application cycle is the interview notes everything else is thrown out. If you didnt like your p-state by all means rewrite, but there is no need to change the activities description.

thanks, Touchdown. Can I get a few more confirmations of this for my anal, premed butt? 😳

I'm also pretty sure that your actual AMCAS is discarded, and only interview notes are kept. I know this is the case at the two SC schools.

Since the AMCAS is computerized, and thus doesn't need to take up any drawer space, I would be surprised if at least a few of the more high tech places didn't keep it, at least for a little while. The application cycle isn't technically even over until orientation week. And the AAMC probably keeps it, as it saves them a ton of time not having to re-verify stuff-- are you guys sure it isn't still available from them? (I have no knowledge either way).

but wouldnt they have to verify again if you took classes in that first year of applying?

also, with literally 1000's of applications each year, i find it at least a little hard to beleive they would keep the old apps and compare them to the new ones?

GW keeps your old LORs, and lets you reuse the old ones if you want (which i had to do this year and will do again for the upcoming cycle since for some reason my committee letter no longer gets to the school)

dopamine...you have to reapply!!!!!!!!!!!!! why not add a "safety" school, and by safety school i mean still a school that most people wouldn't even think about applying to since your app looks really good. but then again, i'm sure the schools you chose are the exact schools you want to attend. :luck:

and with this, i'm surprised that GW does keep stuff...i really don't know where they keep these files w/ 11K+ apps this past year alone!

just wanted to let you know that it really depends on the school. Most of the primary applications probably do not get stored, but if you sent in secondaries to any schools I do know some schools do keep those. When I interviewed at the University of Minnesota, they still had my letters of rec and information from my previous years secondary. They said they did this help them compare how you have changed as an applicatant. But then other schools definitely didn't keep anything. So if you liked your PS my advice would be keep it but just tweek it. Add a few new things about yourself that has developed between the last time you applied and now. I hope that helps.

Sarah's right. Some schools do retain the old LOR's and secondary applications. If you reapply, they will surely compare and note any changes that you have done to improve your recent/current application. Taking advance level science courses such as molecular biology/genetics and cell biology may also help, as it will show a committment to prepare for a more rigorous curriculum.

It will also help to call the admissions offices where you applied previously. Most of them will counsel you on how to improve your application.

dopamine,

I just saw your application profile. What's wrong with those schools you applied to?! Anyway, I'm at awe at your credentials, I feel so humbled.

I can't really think of anything else to improve your chances except to apply to more schools. You may have limited your options by applying to only 5 schools.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll get in.

so the general consensus seems to be that schools might keep your old secondaries but not your old primary?
