5 interviews means your chances are good. And what do you mean 5 interviews is the average? Average for who, people getting 5 interviews?

If you have 5 invites you should definitely go to all of them (unless you'd really hate the school you're withdrawing from). Why would you take that chance? You never know who you're going to interview with.

false. i believe the average is closer to three (among competitive people who get at least one). that's purely my own back-of-the-napkin estimate, but it sure ain't five.

you need to keep going to interviews that are offered until you get an acceptance. unless, of course you want to improve the odds that you sit out another year.

5 is a LOT from what I can tell. Maybe not on SDN, but it is in the real world.

First year I applied, I had four interviews. Not a single acceptance (two waitlisted me, the other two rejected me flat out).

Second time I applied, I had four interview invites. I went to three of them (one was scheduled in February, and I got an acceptance in October; the other three were in September/October), and got accepted to two of those schools.

Go to all of your interviews until you get an acceptance, unless you have a really, really good reason for not going.

run a search. people have told stories on this forum of applicants with 10 interviews and nothing to show for it. i can remember one member in particular who posted all through his app year: seven interviews, all at top schools (failed to include any mid-tiers for fallback), was finally accepted from the waitlist at Mayo in the third week of May.

I really disliked the school, and I was turned off greatly during the interview in many respects. I withdrew shortly after the interview in Dec. Even though I ultimately did not get in anywhere else, I don't regret this one...

I'm just shocked! Good for you for having the balls to do that (I know you're a girl). I don't think I could ever do something like that.

Fine, but while you're thinking it wasn't shallow, don't convince yourself it was profound.

The differences between allo schools are pretty superficial. Other than geography (and get used to being somewhere other than where you think you prefer), what they all do is give you the opportunity to EDUCATE YOURSELF. Med school is what YOU make of it.

If you decide to reapply sometime, I wish you better luck. Don't close any door unnecessarily. Med school is only 4 years, being a doctor is a lifetime.
