For schools with 1 open & 1 closed-filed interview: do we kno which is which?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's usually the student interviewer who gets the closed file. Faculty interviewer gets the open one.

At the one school I interviewed at that did this, both interviewers told me which one they were. Also you could tell, because one interview was with a person who had a file on their desk, the other was with a person in a clinic. No file to be seen. You can just tell, or maybe they will tell you.

Oh I thought some schools had 2 faculty interviewers?

Perhaps but from what I've read on SDN, if there are two faculty interviews, then it's most likely open file.

You can also be crafty by saying something like this in your first interview answer: "I'm not sure if you read my file or not [pause here for a response or reaction]... To tell you about myself, I am yadda yadda... or I want to become a dentist blah blah blah."

My experience has been that the one with the thick file folder is the open-file and the one with a small worksheet (maybe only my PS) is the closed-file.

I've been to some interviews, both closed and open file. If the interview was a closed file, each interviewer explained why it is closed and the interview process in general. At the open file interviews, I was either told it was open, or I could see my application on the table in front of me. I haven't had a student interviewer, and I don't think that the norm is that a student interviewer is always closed file. I've been to schools where I got interviewed by 1 faculty, 2, and 4. I've heard another school is 5-6 depending on the day. Also, I had a two faculty interview which was closed file. It's different for EACH school. If they don't tell you before the interview or during, just ask before or during.

Also, a thick folder doesn't mean open; I had a closed with a thick folder of questions and sheets to write on and record scores such as excellent, good, etc.

You usually know by the questions they ask you. Any indication that they know anything about you usually signifies the open file (ie. my interviewer asked me how I liked playing varsity sports in college...so I kinda knew). That, and my closed filed guy said straight up "I'm your closed file, if you haven't figured that out already, so tell me everything about you".
