I know it's a big advantage to do your amcas early. I've heard that the earliest date that AMCAS sends the applications to the schools is june 24. Can anybody comfirm this?
I think it's been late June to early July in the past. I really don't think a week or even two will make a huge difference--you'll still be in the first wave of applicants. It only starts making a difference if you're several months late (e.g. submitting in late August or September) cause then you're in the late pool.
One thing people never consider is all the top notch applicants tend to submit their applications very early as well so you'll end up in interview groups that have a disproportionately high number of highly qualified people. If you're just average, that might not be the best thing.
I think the bottom line about applying early is that it can hurt you to apply late but it doesn't necessarily help you to apply early (meaning that if a school is going to reject you, they'll reject you whether you applied June 1 or August 1).
Most schools will send the secondaries out in one big batch so I think what matters more is when you get your secondaries in. A week or two behind with the initial AMCAS shouldn't make a big difference...
The scenario I'm looking at is if I apply one month I may be competing for 50 spots. Wait a month and I'm competing for only 30 spots. It's easier to be in the top 50 than the top 30, especially because your numbers didn't change in that time. If you would have been #49, then in case 1 you get in, case 2 you don't.
