Hey Margaret! Sorry, must have not seen the last post. I don't think there are any problems with renting the unit, but you do have to let them know about it. As far as electrical work, I would guess you would just need to call Imagineers (the management assoc.) and ask them. I dont see why it would be a problem if it was done by a licensed contractor.

I'm having some trouble right now with mine due to the fact that the appraisal came in much lower than the price I offered and a second appraisal confirmed the first appraisal. I am trying to get the seller to lower the price closer to the appraised price because I simply don't have unlimited funds for a down payment! We'll see what happens there. Hope all is well for all you huskies out there.

Thanks Jon. Can you believe they still haven't gotten me the condo docs! I'm relieved that we'll be able to rent though.

I hope I don't have the same probs with my appraisal! Right now I just got some mortgage papers to sign and I really don't understand half of the stuff. I have to have Linda Meyers look at it, so I don't sign something I don't understand. The mortgage had a strange clause about pre-paying the loan, stating that interest would not be refundable. I can't tell if they mean the interest on the entire loan or what! That's 191K total princlple and interest on top of my 20K down payment that I already made! I'd never be able to sell the house if I wanted to!

What happens if the appraisal doesn't agree with what you offered? I wonder if they can change the figures in the original contract?

Can I ask, also, if you are happy with Linda Meyers' service so far? They seemed okay when I called, but apparently they don't look at anything inspection related. They better look at my mortgage stuff! Lastly, is the lawyer taking care of doing the title search?

Jon,

How is stuff with the house going?

We aren't too happy and are thinking of backing out. We found out that two units in our row sold last Sept. .......one for 95K and one for 75K. The guy that paid 95K, I suspect, got ripped off. Of course, the broker only told us about the guy who paid 95K last year, not the 75K one. Now we are paying 100K for a similar place! So, we just got the condo docs and I'm thinking of backing out. The papers we signed say I should get my 5K deposit back.

I dont know if the seller is going to move on that price, so we may have to look again up there. Its just not worth paying much more than the appraisal price. We'll see what happens.

That is terrible that they didnt tell you about the other places' selling prices. Sure puts a new spin on all of this for you. I would understand backing out. I know that you can still get your deposit back. I didnt work with Linda, but instead with another couple of realtors, so I can't comment on her service. Keep me updated; this may prove to be something I learn from as well. Good luck with it all.

Jon,

We did end up backing out after looking at the condo docs. Seems we wouldn't have gotten a lot for our money at Farmington Village. I would probably have had the same problems with my appraisal, too.

So, I'll be looking again up there this weekend. I'm definitely doing my homework online before heading up there so that I know what a good or bad price is. Our broker seems nice, but he has no trouble concealing the truth. I think you were so right when you were talking about how they try to drive up prices on listings from their own company.

Good luck to you, too. I'll keep you informed of what is happening with my condo shopping in case you may benefit from it.

hey all,

I cannot believe we only have a few months left before we start school!! I was just reading the "dress code" thread and was wondering, do any of you know what the dress code is for Uconn?

Not that I've heard of Neeky........but I'm gonna check out the web site! I'm sure there is a dress code in the clinic.

Margaret

I just emailed a guy I know up there that is a current student. He says the following:

"No real dress code. Some days it's scrub pants & my green Elmo tee shirt and other days it's dress pants and a nice shirt. No one cares and it doesn't matter. Clinic you should dress nicely for or you can wear scrubs (although I think even with scrubs you still have to wear nice shoes, no sneakers). Most people wear jeans and a shirt."

Thanks, Pat, if you are reading this. That pretty much sums it up for me!

Thanks Jon!!!!

too bad about not wearing sneakers... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Just trying to keep this thread alive.

For all ya incoming students next year, are there any of you wanna have a head start on volunteer work? I am co-ordinating the Migrant Farmworks Dental Clinic and if you guys are interested, you guys can email me to [email protected] and i will schedule you guys for the summer if you will be here. If not, i will make annoucements in your class after school begins cuz this project last till october.
What we do for migrant farmworkers is that we go on different fields and provide dental health care to them. We exam them, make diagnosis and refer them to a dental clinic for free treatments. This will be a great experience for you and it also looks good on your resume!! well, let me know.... this year i have a large number of students who signed up for this activity so each students might have a chance to go once or twice this year. OKIE... contact me if you are interested and see you guys soon.
Nick

hey all,

big bump for the thread once again...
So the housing search has been interesting esp since I am doing it from Michigan, I think I will be living in Talcott Forest, some of you mentioned looking at these condos? any thoughts? I won't be buying, just rooming with some peeps who already own it.

thanks in advance,
-- summer is slipping by soo fast!

Well, you'd be in a convenient location. That's for sure. I've driven through the "forest" and it looks attractive. I'm buying a place up along Route 4 in W.Hartford about 3 miles away.

I can't believe how summer is slipping away either!!! Still so much to do....so little time. We'll all be together before you know it!
