hi guys
just check your nyu account online through albert to see if u have been billed $500+ for the comprehensive student health insurance plan for summer 2006 ( not the fall 06 semester for which we join) semester even though u have opted to waive ur insurance . if u feel this is inappropriate u can call the health insurance office at nyu and check with them.

How and where do you check your account online?

Also is this summer health insurance mandatory if we dont have other health insurance?

I've signed up for the nyu health insurance starting in the fall but there was no mention of the summer portion of it. I would like to waive the summer altogether if that is possible even though I currently do not have any health insurance

hi k!
u can create an nyu home account and log in to albert where u can see ur account, personal information, etc.for creating nyu home account u need ur nyu id and create a password. well i dont know if the summer insurance is mandatory ,when i calld the insurance office they said they would send me a paper waiver form for a summer waiver. hope this helps!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I created my account...so I have been billed for the summer insurance..i was never told, nor contacted about this summer insurance...I called up the health insurance office and they said to come in tomorrow and I can waive it....

However, I wonder if I have to show proof that I have other health insurance in order to waive nyu's....keep in mind I only want to waive the summer health insurance, and will be using their HI starting in the fall.

Any thoughts?

Most of the students joining the Fall 06 semester are automatically enrolled for the summer health insurance program [the Comprehensive Plan to be exact], for which the fee turns out to be a little more than $500. If you have been enrolled for this program they will send you a letter from the Chickering Health Insurance group, after which you have to call the NYU student health insurance center and ask them to send you a waiver form [they don't have it online anymore since the deadline to waive the summer health insurance has gone by already]. But nobody needs to worry since they will allow AP-DDS to call in and cancel the insurance and reduce your balance to $0. Just be sure that for us AP-DDS the deadline to cancel the summer health insurance is Aug 8th... so get busy everyone. Another pointer: They weren't excited at all about asking for proof of any existing HI plan before waiving the summer HI plan, so that will not be necessary.
Also, the deadline to sign up for the insurance covered between the Fall 06 through the Spring 07 term is September 30th '06.
Hope I'm making sense, if not, ask again.
Feel free to call up the NYU Student Health Insurance office [212-443-1020] for questions that might be out of my scope.
Good luck guys! 👍
Peace out

hey what's up,
thanks for the pointers...so did you call up the health insurance office and cancel over the phone? I called them up but they said I would have to come in and do it...maybe because I they didn't know I was an AP student.

Where did you find out that we have till august 8th to cancel?
How are things going on your end?

That's what I'm wondering, I never recieved any notification that there was even a summer HI program let alone that is was 525 bucks!...

If anyone else has called them up and had it waived over the phone...please post your experience.

 quite true....!!!!i'm still confused!!!!duh!anyone to explain?

Hai ,
I did call the Health Insurance and told them that I would like to waive for the summer and she told that she will mail the waiver form which I have to fill and send that back before Aug 8 and the Deadline to chose the Insurance for the fall will be sep 30. I think I will go for the Basic plan which sounds to be pretty good for a student.

Basic plan: 1376/ yr( copay-20$)
comprehensive plan: 2049/yr( copay-15$)

Any inputs regarding chosing the plan??

Ditto! There, you got it right Dentalmaniac. They automatically enroll new students for some unknown reason in the summer HI plan. Also, you're right about signing up for the Basic plan which is cheaper. And if you keep your hands clean you might never have to even visit the SHC and pay the copay 😀

Hey Khurram, how's it going. About calling and waiving the enrollment on the phone... they apparently don't think it's a good idea.... which is why they're asking everyone to either have the waiver mailed to them before Aug 8th, or walk in their office and fill out the waiver. You could opt for either. Don't worry, you won't go in debt for something you weren't informed about or hadn't enrolled for yourself. Enjoy married life man, not many days left for grill-time to start 😀

And Fido, if you haven't received any letter, it means 2 things... either you're about to receive it..... or you haven't been signed up in the first place for the summer HI. I would call up the number I've already posted and find my HI status. Good luck!
Peace out ya'll.

Thanks for the help naush...called up health office and they are mailing me the waiver letter...quite sly of them to try to pull a fast one on us without even notifying us!

Go for the basic plan guys, if you are a relatively healthy person, you will hardly need any care except for the occasional meds/antibiotics....
and even then if you can't afford it...come to me, I brought a whole years worth of meds from pakistan! 😀

Khurram, that's not a bad money minting method! If yunno what I mean.... 😉

Can somebody please clarify my doubt ?When I called NYU office they told me I can waive my summer insurance only if my present insured that I am covered with meets their requirements. If not I have to opt for their basic insurance plan instead of comprehensive for summer.Did I get it right? And they said the waiver forms have been mailed to everybody yesterday.

I hope we can just waive it, even if we dont have insurance for the summer..cuz I dont wanna pay for the summer insurance. I guess we'll find out when the waiver forms get here.

Bad news... turns out there's a whole questionnaire about our CURRENT HI plan in the summer HI-waiver form! Whyyy do they want us to be insured for just one last week of summer... And why do they want the name of our current HI provider!! Why is being insured for just one week so mandatory? WHY!!?!
Life's sooo ughh! 🙄

Me? I haven't waived it just yet since the deadline is Aug 8th so Imma hold off on that. For right now I'm going to see if I can stretch my current HI plan uptill the first week of Aug after which I can sign up with the NYU plan. Sadly enough I'm gonna have to provide all the info about my current one... but not just yet.
And you'll probably be getting your waiver form real soon.
Anyway I'm off to work so won't be able to get back here until late evening.
Peace out~!

So i got the yellow waiver form today, however there is no mention of the summer insurance program on there..it only says whether to choose the basic or comprehensive which is payable in fall or partially in fall and spring....

So if i just want the basic for the summer do I just select the basic option that is listed and assume they will apply that for summer as well?

any help?

I am joining the Adv DDS Program this year and am new to SDN. I got an e-mail from Phyllis Slott regarding availability of The Blackboard site for the course. I checked the NYU site and it says the Course is not available (under the Academics tab->Current Academic Courses). Anyone else tried the site.

Hi All,
Did anyone receive electronic health history forms from NYU health center recently?

Yup, i got them...what a pain in the ass...now i gotta get a hold of my forms in pakistan AGAIN for the second time...they should have just sent us these forms the first time...what a waste

not to mention, have it signed and stamped the doctor in pakistan 👎

I dont understand why didnt they send the forms before? We could have got it done when we got our health forms signed by our physician.I will call them up and ask if we can get it done at NYU health center if we have our original records with us.

I totally second Syk. I don't understand the whole point of sending these electronic forms after we've gotten all the health requirements completed. How weird is that. Plus the envelope says to respond within the deadline... does anyone know what the d-line is? I think I'm too infuriated to read it again.
And yea, I'll call them and ask if we can get it done from the NYU-SHC since I dont want to pay the co-pay for the zillionth time now because of their stuuuuuuuuuuupid requirements!!!!!
Argh! 😡

what is this all about?can anyone gimme any input? 😕

first of all u can't opt for the hthstudents plan......nice n cheap but doesn't satisfy the major pre requisite placed by our school ie, cover for pre-existing conditions........u may think of checking assurant plans.......but advisable to opt for the basic plan at school coz of the high NYU taxes it works out to the same.............also if something goes wrong school would be responsible for u........but if we all request the school authorities together on the first day of our school maybe it wud help n we could at least opt for the $74 plan at the hth for the summer.......absolutely unnecessary to pay for the months of may, june n july 2006 especially since we couldn't avail them....i have been mailing them since a month..........but it wud help if we all went together................

besides for the immunisation doc received from nyu.....just fill up ur part n fax it 2 the nyucd health dpartment.........n they would forward ur copies to the respective people.......call up rosemary before u fax them..........

hope its helpful..............

Is the deadline to send health documents sometime in sep ?If so,I am thinking of giving them the forms when our classes start.

If you're talking about the pink electronic health history forms, I think they have to be sent in before the first day of class. That's what it says.

I read on the pink forms that the deadline is september 15th
