Hey. Going to Boston 2 days before my interviews, need to fill up my time so I don't sit too much in my hotel room (in Cambridge). Going on Nov 28 alone, was thinking of going to the zoo, anything else I should see? Any good dive eateries, pubs relatively close to Cambridge and area around Brigham and Women's Hosp?

franklin cafe in the south end is my fav but not exactly close to cambridge. by far the best food i've had in boston. not cheap but GREAT!

tavern on the square in central square is good...lots of tvs if you want to catch some football. food is ok.

i'd go check out the frog pond! ice skating opens this weekend! even if you don't skate it's a fun place to people watch. there's always some nuts out there who think they are trying out for the olympics!

Thanks! What street is the Franklin Cafe on? I may go check it out. Frog pond sounds great too. And definitely need to hit up the Museum of Science.

If you're going to be by yourself, I probably wouldn't go to South End- its more like a date place to go. Food is amazing though, undoubtedly. Check out Fanuel Hall. Its also within the part of the city where its surrounded by other things to do. South End is a little bit out of the way.

Walk the Freedom Trail and then you'll get to see a lot of the historical sites in Boston. It will also take you through the major areas of Boston. Just find the red line on the sidewalk.

Mike's Pastry in the North End is also amazing.

Maybe hit Middle East and see some live music? The Enormous Room is a cool little spot for drinks. There's also the Botanical Gardens (not in Cambridge.)

Good Eateries near BWH--- I would recommend Penguin Pizza or Mission Bar & Grill. Both have excellent food and great beer selections.

Don't go to the zoo. It is the most depressing place ever (they lost their accreditation for a while) and it is a pain to get there unless you have a car. The aquarium is a better bet, it is small, but it has a lot of penguins. It is also Boston in late November.. it is going to be cold... a lot of neat outdoorsy stuff (Quincy Market, Boston Common) might not be too bearable.

Go to Harvard Square.. neat shops (check out black ink) and tealuxe. And while it might be cold, Boston is known for its ice cream. In fact, try local chain J.P. Licks right across the Street from the Brigham.

You can PM me if you want more in depth, i.e. directions.

Good Luck

When I was there I went to the aquarium and was highly disappointed. But that could be due to the fact that the only other aquarium I had been to was the Shedd in Chicago.

The aquarium is not the greatest, but I've easily spent a several hours in there, plus it is close to major tourist locales.

Also I forgot, 2 T stops from Brigham is the Museum of Fine Arts and not far from that is isabella stewart gardner museum. The later was the victim of an art heist in the 80s or 90s. Isabella Stewart Gardner put it in her will that no picture were to be replaced, so empty frames hang on the wall. It's kinda neat/sad/haunting.

Also food.. I would recommend Zaftigs in Brookline for breakfast or just for their potato pancakes. It is an area called Coolidge corner, which is neat to walk around. There is the 66 bus, that can bring you from Brigham to Brookline and even on to Harvard Square. It is slow, but public transportation in Boston always is.
