What are your impressions about doing TBR AND doing EK 1001? The S2Ned schedule suggests doing 1/3 EK 1001 for each chapter for Chem, Orgo, and Physics so I've been trying to follow that but I'm also wondering how helpful they are. They are kind of calculation heavy and are worded strange and have really thoughtless explanations. Sometimes I feel like they are a waste of my time if I'm already doing TBR. So for those of you who already took the MCAT or are studying for it - are you using EK 1001? Please discuss if you are or aren't. And if you already took the MCAT, did the extra questions from EK really help?

Meh I'd just recommend doing tpr science wb passagesa instead, i dont think o-chem 1001 is too bad though

They are a lot of questions, but do give you plenty of practice. Yes, some of it is very unlikely to be on the mcat, but it still helps you know the stuff you don't understand. If you do well on TBR for physics, you probably don't need to do the 1001, but it's still good practice. Idk about the chem and orgo
I felt the 1001 bio and 101 verbal were the only ones worth doing that actually helped me on the mcat (g chem and physics were easy for me).

Yes if you do good in TBR first time through the book you won't really need any extra practice. BUT if you do I would rank TPRH science workbook leaps and bounds above EK's. I have used all three TPRH, EK, TBR. Only thing EK may have on TPRH is it might have more discretes per concept. But discretes aren't the gold at the end of the rainbow.... passages are.

The real problem I found was going over the wrong answers afterwards. Do BR before EK. If you do BR first, they have great explanations and tricks. You learn POE and the material at the same time. After doing BR, it doesn't matter that EK answers are short and useless. You'll get almost all of them right after doing BR passages and learning how to think your way through the material.

What makes Orgo 1001 alright in your opinion?

Yeah, I do agree. I used EK1001 for the physics chapters that I wasn't the best in which helps. Some people don't like the Biology EK 1001. Any reason why you liked it?

Yeah I like TPRH science workbook too. Unfortunately, when I took the MCAT the first time, I used up all the passages on physics and marked up the book too. At least I have the other subjects to use now.

Hm...that's an interesting point...Although it's kind of hard to use POE in a lot of EK 1001 questions because they were so calculation heavy and precise about definitions they gave in their book. I think I might give my EK books a shot after I do the first phase of TBR if I feel like I need the extra practice.

-- So thanks a lot you guys. I think for now, I'll stick with TBR passages and TPRH and add EK if I feel like I really need the extra practice. I know extra practice is always helpful for physics but I'm still wary of the Chem, Orgo, and Bio. Any one else offer insight on how they perceived those practice in Chem, Orgo, and Bio EK 1001? And if you do TPRH for all the subjects, would EK be just a waste of time that could be spent on other things?

I thought it was good practice just getting used to reading passages about bio stuff. It also made me memorize some stuff (hormones etc) and helped understand some (ex: steroids bind at nuclear memb. bcuz they are hydrophobic and can cross the lipid bilayer).

If you have better things to study with, then do those. If you have extra time, might as well do some practice.

Good luck 👍

The approach I am taking is TBR content + passages first, then tackle the TPR science workbook , then from their plan what do next. I am hoping after TBR passages and TPR sci wb, I can start FLs. But I seem to score low on the passages then I'll go back to doing something else. I tried the EK1001 and in my opinion it sucked. The volume of questions is great, but I just dont think you you need such calculation based questions. Your better of getting more passages in than free standing questions.
