Test is ~7.5 hrs with all breaks and such. Depending on how packed/efficient your testing location is, you may start the test ~20min to an hour after you show up. So expect the whole mcat experience to take ~8hrs.

One of the last to start (finished check-in around 8:20) and I think I was the last one out around 3:50 pm. Literally took every second they gave me.

On the May 22 MCAT, I was in by like 7:45 and I was the absolute last test taker in the testing center, around 3:30.

You mean you were the last to leave? Why is that?

Probably because they used all their time and took their breaks (they're optional).

Dog's got it right. I took power naps during my breaks after using the restroom so I savored every moment of it. Plus during one break I lost track of time so I got an extra minute after the Prometric proctors came and reminded me haha.

So, the computer doesn't automatically start you when the break is over (meaning if you happen to enter the exam room a tad bit late, the computer doesn't just go straight into the next section you're supposed to be doing?).

That's exactly right. Now, I would imagine that there would be some sort of a limit eventually, but I definitely did not encounter it after about a minute or so of being late.

Also, did you eat snacks? Sometimes I think about what snacks or drinks I would be allowed to have during the 10 minute breaks.

Also, @panda16, how did you do your power naps? I mean this seriously, and can only imagine a panda giving the best advice on this.

So like I only ate during the lunch break. I made myself a PB sandwich and brought some nuts. I avoided carbs because whenever I have a high carb lunch I get really sleepy...granted the adrenaline rush prevented me from falling asleep but not having carbs really helped my focus I think.

And there were a couple of very stained, uncomfortable, seedy-looking couches in the waiting room, I just laid down on one and covered my face with my hoodie and got shut eye for two-five minutes, just to empty my mind from the test. Then I got up and talked with my friends who were also taking the test with me (took it in my college town due to scheduling issues with my own hometown). My power naps are just five to ten minute "close my eyes and not think about anything" sessions.

Arrived at 7:30, started around 8:15 and was out of the test center by 3:15. Took about 5 min for each of the short breaks and 20 min for the lunch break. I think I finished Psych maybe 5-10 min early as well. Took some Cheerios, a banana, and a couple bottles of water. Didn't want to eat anything heavy as I get tired after a big meal

Woahs. You arrived at 7:30 (pretty early), and only started at 8:15 (what I think is a bit late). Why's that?
Testing center just seemed to be really slow checking people in; they probably should have had a couple more bodies so they could have processed more than one person at a time. Not a huge deal though especially since everyone was offset with their starting times so there wasn't ever really a ton of people checking in/out at the same time during break times which was nice

Ohh I see. 🙂
It wasn't distracting that people always got up to leave or came back into the exam room, at relatively 'random' or discordant times, whilst you were on your computer doing the test?

Nope, all of the stations were facing the wall perpendicular to the door so as long as I had my earplugs in and was concentrated on my exam I didn't really notice the people around me
