Hello,

I'm currently applying to UPenn and I've just been notified that my application is complete and under review. I'm also a Canadian applicant who is worried about not being able to pay tuition. I have no problem taking out loans, however, even then I'm not sure if I'd be able to borrow enough money to pay for school. I haven't borrowed in the past (I worked my way through undergrad) and have actually managed to save up about 20G, but that is all I've got as my family is relatively poor. Ideally, I'd like to get an entrance scholarship as this would probably allow me to attend. I believe that I'm a fairly competitive applicant with 3.9GPA and 22DAT, however, does anyone know, based on their experience, whether I would qualify for an entrance scholarship? I believe I read on UPenn's website/brochure that the school gives out entrance scholaships that cover half the tuition. How many ppl are given this scholarship? Is it automatic? Does it come with the acceptance?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you

I'm not a UPenn student, but I interviewed there recently. I'll tell you what my understanding of the process is, and you can take it for what it's worth....

I believe the half-tuition scholarship is given to 25 students - also, you may or may not hear immediately with your acceptance. Apparently, you have 45 days to respond to their acceptance, but if you receive the scholarship with your acceptance, you have 21 days to accept the scholarship or they will pass it along. So you may end up qualifying for the scholarship even if you don't hear immediately.

Of course, someone correct me if I'm wrong 😀

Thanks for the info. Is this something you heard from the admissions committee during your visit?
