Hello,
I've been a long-time contributor to SDN regarding DDS/DMD and PhD combined programs. I now run my own research group in the Head and Neck Cancer Section of the Surgical Oncology Program (SOP) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). I'm reaching out to dental students that are interested in taking a gap year to learn about research/science in a 1 year program at the NIH. The stipend is $50,400 for the year.

For those Dental Students interested in Head and Neck Cancer related research, I have a robust program focused on drug development, single-cell spatially resolved transcriptomics of patient biopsies with HNC, clinical trials to stop HNC from transforming, and utilization of Deep Learning for detection of premalignant oral lesions that transform into squamous cell carcinoma. This program is meant to conduct over a full year, and is best aimed towards individuals that wish to have relevant Head and Neck Cancer experience, for a future career in HNC surgical oncology or research career. You would need approval from your Dental School to engage in this research and pause your clinical training for 1 year.
Please email me directly at [email protected] if you're interested in such a training program.
