This seems to be very different from one place to the next.

We have a Sonosite and i use it for every CVL and every block I do. Hell, ive even used it to peg a few difficult IVs. One thing ive discovered is that the thing is idiot proof you just have to do it a lot to recognize the structure and how to identify needle etc.

What are you using? Is this standard where you are too?

I use U/S for all blocks (no stimulator at all) and will use it to mark the site for an IJ. If the IJ is difficult, I'll go real time. I've also used it for IVs and A-lines.

Having used both, I think GE is better than Sonosite. That said, I haven't seen their new machine which I heard is pretty good.

I have heard the GE is better from many people but i dont have any experience with it either. We had a presentation last week about the new machines but i was only able to stay for 1/2 of it (someone has to work!). It looked cool and it was "made for anesthesiologists" per the rep. Whatever that means...

Siterite for all non-emergency central lines.

Downtown we do regional the new oldfashioned way, with a nerve stimulator. We have stimulating introducer needles to thread in our Interscalenes, popliteal, femoral, and sciatic caths.

At Rush Northshore every block is done with U/S. I'll even bring the U/S to the floors to do 3in1's on post op knees/femurs.
