Hallo,

My wife got is an international medical graduate (IMG), or some people call it Foreign med grad (FMG). SHe does not feel comfortable passing all those USMLE Steps in order to get into residency, but she would like to stay in medicine. Backhome she completed her internship and was practicing internal medicine.
Here she is working in a university, doing research.
Do you know someone with the same background getting into a PA (masters) program? Will her clinical experience be counted? What is the tuition for a non-citizen?

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Simon

Her prior experience would count towards health care hours needed for admission but she would not get advanced standing in the program, she would still have to do the 2+ years just like everyone else. there are fmg's in pa programs so it can be done.

Thank you Emedpa!

DO you have an idea about the tuition?
Do PA programs sponsor visas for study?

TUITION VARIES FROM PROGRAM TO PROGRAM. THERE ARE 134 PROGRAMS OUT THERE, SOME PUBLIC AND SOME PRIVATE SO TUITION IS ALL OVER THE BOARD.LOW END TUITION IS PROBABLY 20 THOUSAND FOR THE 2 YEAR PROGRAM WITH A HIGH END> 60 THOUSAND. I DO NOT THINK ANY PROGRAMS WILL SPONSOR A FOREIGN VISA APPLICANT BECAUSE THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF U.S. APPLICANTS. MOST PROGRAMS HAVE > 500-1000+ APPLICATIPONS FOR 30 SPOTS.THEREE ARE A FEW MED SCHOOLS(NYCOM FOR 1) THAT WILL TRAIN FMG'S TO PASS THE US BOARDS. THAT MIGHT BE A BETTER USE OF HER TIME.

I graduated from Essex Community College (joint program with Towson University) in Baltimore, Md. There were 6 FMGs in my class, all of whom did exceptionally well.

Best wishes!

Thank you for the encouragement friends!
Everything you mentioned helped me to find a lot of info on the web!

Best wishes,
