my previous school has Forgiveness of Grades policy and I am wondering that if you retake a class which you got a D previously and get an A...will AADSAS calculates both D & A into th GPA? or they only just counts repeated grade? cuz the school will just rule the D out of your GPA which is very nice. thanks

aadsas calculates both grades into the GPA, unfortunately for all of us

Grade forgiveness often means that they will replace your old grade with a W. So in the eyes of AADSAS, only your new grade will count towards your GPA. Some schools do it that way, some don't... ask the records office.

With AADSAS, you gotta give them everything. They will pry into the darkest part of your life and make it know to the dental world, especially grades.

I don't think so...AADSAS uses both grades...they want everything...and if you were caught by the schools being dishonest...that would be bad, very bad...I wouldn't take the risk...just be completely truthful...it won't keep you from getting in...plus it is impressive that you made such a comeback!!!

No. Your put both grades down and they count as two grades.

Depends. Most schools (mine included) only replace the grade when calculating your GPA but keep the record; it's still there in other words. Where it matters is your official transcript. Order one and see what they put there. About 99% of the time, it'll still say your original grade followed by a letter next to that grade (ie, "Grade: D - E" where the 'E' is for 'expunged').

I think many people in the thread misunderstood your approach. Some schools (although I only know of one) have a one time grade forgiveness and I think may clear the records...although to be honest I'm not sure about the accuracy of that statement.

I', pretty sure 99.99999999% of schools will never remove the grade from your transcript/clear it. They may "replace the grade" in order to raise GPA for "graduation/institutional purposes", but for AADSAS, they WILL count both grades because it is on your transcript. Therefore, you will end reporting both and there will be NO grade forgiveness for applying to Dental School. You also can't "hide" the grade. Report all of it, retake the class, get a solid A, and you are good to go.

One of the schools I attended offered to replace my old grade of F with a W if I retook the class and passed. That means that it won't count towards AADSAS, because they will only see it as a W. What is so hard to understand about that people?

Because most schools only do that for your GPA for the school. They still have proof of your F. That's what's so hard to understand person.

I have never heard of a school that actually erased your record completely that you received an F in a course. But if your completely sure the record of the F is erased completely, then I guess you learn something new everyday.

here is the bottom line:

you must key in your courses (name, number, and grade earned) EXACTLY the way they appear on your transcript to AADSAS. Same spelling, same number of hyphens, same everything.

If you don't do this, your only slowing things down for yourself because AADSAS WILL correct your application and include everything you missed.

Order your official transcripts. The ones that you will send to AADSAS. It'll cost you about $10 but you'll need them later to enter them into AADSAS. Enter them exactly as they appear on the official transcripts.

If your school really replaced the D or F with a 'W' then put down 'W' on AADSAS. Most likely, you will see the D or F is still there. Like others have said, the purposes of replacing a previous course with a 'W' is only for intra-school GPA calculations 99.999987% of the time.

AADSAS can't forgive students even tho school could...

are yo usure?? what I found out was they place a grade on your transcript but the old grade will be place by a W....so...I don't know like my official transcripts will be like different from before ??? and the D I got 4 years ago won't be marked as D but a W??

Ugh so true, unfortunately 👎 If only grades could truly be replaced.

"Courses that have been repeated. Both grades from repeated courses are used in calculating the ADEA AADSAS GPA, even if this is not the policy of your college/university."

http://www.adea.org/dental_educatio...ts/GeneralInstructions/Pages/Coursework2.aspx

To my understanding of aadsas policy, both will be included in calculations. However, if your school 'erases' older grades for which you've repeated, I'm not certain.

What the other person said above me is correct. You need to put them both down. Just bite the bullet.
