I have submitted my application long time ago. But I just realized that I didn't put any volunteer experience in the "volunteer experience" part!
I actually had tons of volunteer experience. So regretted. Is it going to be a big disadvantage for this cycle? I mean will the schools turn me down because they don't like a selfish person without any volunteer experience? I have already received a rejection from one school.....🙁

people are so careless with applications that decide their careers. i have no pity. next

Perhaps you can call the schools you applied to and explain your situation. Not sure if they will be too sympathetic, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

How did you not catch that during your pre-submission proofread? You did do a pre-submission proofread... didn't you?

I did proofread. But I just didn't realize how important the volunteer experience was at that time. I thought it doesn't relate to dental experience and thus ignored that. Can't believe what I was thinking at that time. Is that a really important part?

^^^ Canadians 🙄

People get in without volunteering experience. You've got great DAT scores so you might as well stick through this cycle.

Not Canadians but international. Seriously, I didn't input the volunteer experience because I thought it was quite a personal thing. Why one has to let everybody know that he is kindhearted and willing to help people? I was wrong though. Have to pay the price.....

Are you a Korean international?

It's a good thing for your chances that you don't feel the same way about letting everybody know that you are intelligent with those stellar DAT scores 😉.

I really do respect your humility. Unfortunately, if there is any place to politely toot your own horn a bit, the AADSAS app is it.

Best of luck this cycle.

So you automatically assume that just because someone's an international other than Canadian, has ridiculously high DAT scores and ZERO common sense, that he or she must be Korean???

Yeah sounds about right 🙂

So many assumptions... 😱

Based on Doc Toothaches statistics spreadsheet on Internationals (I'm too lazy to lookup the link right now), Canadians are the most common internationals in terms of applicants followed by South Koreans. These two groups outnumber all other internationals by a huge margin. Thus there's like an 80%+ probability that my prediction is correct.

Can I admit that I'm a Korean international? Then people here won't think my nation as "has ridiculously high DAT and ZERO common sense".

I'm just myself. I know I'm stupid. But I have paid three years to prepare for the application. It is much harder for an international than a US. I worked and supported myself and try to save as much as I can because international don't get loans. Now I forgot about the stupid volunteer part! I did put 110 of volunteer/shadow in a dental office if that would help. Shouldn't me get some comfort from somebody rather than guessing my nationality? Anyway, I wish everybody good luck on this cycle!

Does Korea not have dental schools?
Or do they have a system like Canada where you need ridiculous stats to get in?

Hey OP, I think you will be fine. If they make a big deal about it during the interviews, you can simply let them know about how you actually have volunteering experiences. I don't think they will immediately reject you especially if you at least put something down for the dental related exp.

Best of luck to you, I'm sure you will do great this cycle.

Yes it will negatively impact your apps/ volunteering is pretty important....Besides, even if you landed an interview..any excuses won't cut it. You should've spent the proper time and effort in an apps that decide your future bro. double/3x/4x check everything and make sure it's polished. It's already hard to make an apps appealing to the adcoms, why even.... 😕

Good luck tho:xf:

Lighten up dude, we were just trying to make light of the situation 🙂 Plus, what can we do that can make you feel better anyway? Give you a cyber-hug and tell you that everything is going to be ok? Fact is though, it's won't. It will be very difficult to explain to adcoms that you actually have volunteer / shadowing experience, you just 'forgot' to include them in one of the most important applications that you'll fill out in your lifetime. Like the above poster stated, you should've double, triple checked your app; I checked mine at least 5 times. Well, I hope you'll find out a way to solve this dilemma that you're in. Gluck

If this thread is accurate, I must have been the only person that finished my app on 6/4 and didn't look back. I wrote it once, proofread it 0 times, and hoped for the best! I haven't doublechecked anything so that I don't know what I screwed up!

Not a bad choice if you were careful the first time through. Risky though. It is always important to double check. I don't think many patients would be happy if you didn't double check your work....
