Hey everyone, I just realized that I forgot to include my scholarships in my AMCAS application. B"H I currently have 7 interviews, 3 rejections and have yet to hear from 17 schools. Should I send an update letter to the schools delineating my scholarships?

Academic Scholarships:
Named Scholarship $11,000 Yearly
Named Scholarship $2,000 one time

Religious Scholarship:
Named Scholarship $640 twice

Grants:
Summer Grant, $2,376 one time

Thanks!
J

Hard to say...update letters are important in showing interest but this early in the application cycle? and then basically writing them to admit that you forgot to list an important part of your application? I dunno...maybe talk to your pre-med committee if you have one?

It wouldn't really be an update letter more of a "opps, forgot to mention..." letter.

Thanks. I actually didn't think that they counted for much at the time but someone recently mentioned how important they are. So, that's why I'm rethinking this. Unfortunately, I don't think my Pre-Med adviser will know how to answer this one.

Yeah, the premed "advisor" at my school was pretty useless, too. Another option is to call one of the schools that is lower on your priority list and just ask what they would have you do. It's not that big of a mistake to not consider them a big part of your application...there are a million and one things to keep track off as a pre-med, its easy to forget a couple items. Just ask em how they handle additions to your amcas application.

That sounds like a good idea. Though, last year I called a bunch of schools about updating grades and got pretty generic responses. "We'll include them in your file" was the most common but they never said how much that would affect my app. I wonder how much of an impact my scholarships would have on my app...

I dont think they really care about what scholarships you got... I had an academic fullride, but left that off my app. Most scholarships are just silly, and awarded for crap (in my case).

Either they don't care or they find them impressive. They won't hurt your application. So your possible outcomes are: no gain or some improvement of your app --> always include scholarships in your app.

I personally think that it is not a huge deal if you just leave it off, but if you really want to tell schools (if a scholarship was especially prestigious), then I would send it in an update letter along with anything else new that you have done. That way, it's not the main focus of the letter.
