guys here is the deal. i did very bad in verbal: a 5. I scored lower than what I got on my first TPR diag.. what is this. I was constantly scoring in the 8-10 range on my practice AAMC... what could be wrong. If I do rescoring, can they change my grade? Form B has been an issue for many folks. The funny thing is that I felt good when I got done with my verbal on the real thing, but I got my lowest score out all of my diags and AAMC's. Some thing is defnintely messed up.

There are a number of threads on this. It has been posted in the past that AAMC has not changed the score on a regrade in a number of years. FWIW, I had form B, and my VR was right on line with my diagnostics. You probably misbubbled. 😳

Was it just verbal? How was the PS and BS?

Maybe wes hud all come together and request a rescore from AAMC. This is oir future and we expect it to be transparent and fair. Everything loks shady , selective and discriminatory to me. I hope AAMc does not do profiling, i just hope they do not profile peole for any reason.

lol

please don't tell me you're going to play the "race" card for the AAMC MCAT!!

It's sad, but the reality is that not everyone can do well on the MCAT - otherwise it would just be a pass or fail test. =\ Some people have to get lower marks, some people have to get higher marks, and most people fall right in the middle. If you don't like your score then just do your best on studying for a rewrite.

Don't waste your time being sad about what has happened - pick it up and get ready to kick ass next time. All the best.

No. Science I was pissed too, but verbal is the one that is giving me a hard time. Seriously, I need to get the test regraded. I dont know if it is worth the $50? If they dont change the grade then why the heck do we rescore? Whats the point of rescoring.

To take money from those who are angry about their score.

This is not about race, This is about Verbal result not matchimg practice test. Is it too much to demand transparency and fairness is something that you put so much effort with so little result as an outcome. Anybody who think that demanding transparency in a test like the MCAT need to have his / her Head checked.

huh? 😕

What kind of transparency are you suggesting? Elaborate on what you think happened.

what is the Big deal in AAMC telling us how they went about grading the Exam, parameters considered for the curve, and the hoe the converted the raw score to the scaled one.

you forgot about the experimentals! They will NEVER reveal those to you, fortunately or not... 🙁

I like how the SAT exam could be ordered with your score sheet to see what you got wrong (and possibly why?). I never did that, though. Didn't give enough of a **** to do so and still don't with the MCAT.

i agree with this form B being messed up. i got a 5 in verbal too and was consistently scoring between 8-10 even an 11 once. the best part is that i took this exam last year and got an 8 in verbal cuz i ran out of time and had to guess 2 whole passages. this time i only guessed 1 passage and dropped 3 points 😱 it doesnt make sense. my sciences were great but verbal 😡 but what can we do, the AAMC wont reveal any info to us like curving, or our raw score or if we misbubbled. my friend had form A and i would say her verbal abilities are equal to mine. we scored around the same on our practices this year and last and scored the same on the real test last year and this year she got a 10 😕

i guess it is the curving that was harsh but how is that fair. the MCAT is supposed to be a fair exam so everyone can be compared equally but honestly this test is the most unfair thing in the world. everyone has different forms and some could be harder or easier or some could luck out and love the passages they are reading which makes answering the questions easier. i dont understand why they cannot give everyone the SAME test with the SAME curve cuz this in my opinion would be FAIR. its really sad how one test on one day could destroy someones dream.

Well said.

I've never seen SO MANY posts with low Verbal scores before!!! Do you guys think that the AAMC really messed up this time?

Keep in mind that there are thousands of people who take the MCAT, and less than 100 have posted about abnormally low VR scores.

There are different versions of the MCAT to avoid cheating. If there was only one MCAT, we'd all have to take it in an isolated cubicle. That would also open the door for arguments like "the April 2006 MCAT was WAY harder than August 2002!". That would make it very difficult to compare MCATs across different administrations.

It's a curved standardized test. Some people do well, some people do poorly. My best advice would be to take it in stride and move on. You will face greater injustices in your life, trust me.

what I am wondering here is if anyone got scores that may be ridiculously higher than what they expected. I think this is the true test of a potential coding error. It is human nature to believe we should have done better, but you must consider should you have done worse? For example, someone who has taken many exams and consistently scores around 9-10 then gets a 14 this is a huge jump in a score and cause for concern. Also, scores that just arent consistent with your strengths.

The test is standardized for all forms and across administrations. This allows comparisons to be made. Quite frankly, even if they gave you the exact "curve" formulation, odds are that most don't have the statistical background to understand it anyway.

I'm guessing however this information is protected as a "trade secret" and there is no way you will ever know.

The practice tests should be used as a general guide. The curve on that was determined based upon the passages and people who took it originally. They also had to a passage back in to account for experimentals.

Merely shifting question and passage order would eliminate this problem.

I'm going to agree with it not truly being standardized. It's close, but not quite there.

Yeah but how many of the 40,000 who took it actually post on here? A small fraction. 100 posters with the same issue on SDN doesn't seem like mere coincidence.

Ha. I had BG. I'm talking about the physical science section by the way. Scored consistently in the 10-11 range on practice AAMC exams. On my last practice exam I was one question off a 12, and I didn't even feel that great after taking it. But when I took the real thing, for the first time I felt that I nailed it. I was even thinking I had a chance at a 14. I'm pretty sure I did really well on it. But then I got my score.......a 9. What the hell? There must've been one wicked curve on that form......in addition to me not doing as well as I thought.

Judging by the way you spell, I wouldn't be surprised if you got a bad VR score.

No. If there was a grossly negligent grading error for a particular form, I think the AMCAS folks would have noticed these serious dip between test forms.

Don't get me wrong, if folks want to spend the $50 for piece of mind, by all means do so. But I think the reason that you're seeing so much traffic about AMCAS messing up is that lots of folks got spanked on verbal.

If everyone were complaining about a problem with the Bio section, which I tanked, I too might be thinking of rescoring if I saw others complaining about it. It's kind of like Salem, you know?

Agreed. As someone said, if one person posts that they did poorly on form B verbal, then everyone else will start complaining. The whole conspiracy theory thing is getting ridiculous.

and my scores were exactly as I expected. Felt really shaky with the PS and it showed-I got at the lower end of my practice range. Felt solid on the BS and the VR and my scores were at the high end of my practice range.

Your a sick man, I didn't know there were applicants with stats like yours.

This is exactly what happened to me. I feel like I could have written this. I had form BG and on Verbal I scored 6 which was much lower that what I was getting on my practice exams. I too scored an 8 on VR the first time I wrote this exam and that was without completing 2 passages. This time I completed all passages but the last one and scored a 6! Truly unbelievable. Did you choose to have your VR section rescored?

I may have it rescored, im not sure yet, i highly doubt anything will change and im afraid that maybe they will find a mistake and my score will be worse. are you getting it rescored? im in the process of applying now so we'll see what happens. are you applying this year?

also, are you gonna rewrite the test? im so sick of this damn test, i really dont want to rewrite it but im worried schools will not accept my 5VR. have you heard anything about our chances with such a low VR?

sorry to bust your bubble...but never hear of anyone getting accepted with a 5 in VR not even URM. And i dont think that will change now... ...retake and kick ass

especially for a canadian who is applying as an international student. but if you have a high gpa, ottawa and mac are within your grasps

I'm not sure what form I had, but when I took the test, I thought BS was killer while PS and VR were pretty easy. Turns out, I scored higher than all of my practice tests in BS and lower in VR and PS. I'm pretty sure we're all just victims of the curve. There's really nothing we can do except move on...

i got a 9 VR, 8 BS....and a miserable 4 PS. I knew i was shaky on the PS but DAMN. wasn't expecting it to be that low. i was pretty well stunned.

hopefully, i will do better next time around. If the stars align just right, i MIGHT get an interview...but i doubt it...🙁

Hey, yeah, I'm having mine rescored. I figure it couldn't go much lower than 6 and for 50 bucks why not. I was planning to apply this year, but I felt nervous about applying without having my scores first. I'm going to re-write the exam in April of next year. This time I'm taking the princeton review course. I think in order to be competitive you need at least a 10 on each section. Without this, I'm afraid we won't get any interviews at all. I'm going to apply to SGU in the Caribbean 'cause part of me really can't bear to write this exam again.
