was wondering if there is a more 'correct' way to list your ex.curriculars. obviously they say to list them in terms of importance to you; should you list what you think will catch their eye more? for eg, i'm part of a religious organization which i deem as my #1 most important involvement on campus, however, i think that most dental schools would like to see me list my dental club involvement as a higher priority. maybe i'm just freaking out too much.

I had another question. Should we list the extracurricular separately or in relevant groups? For example I have done volunteer work at two places, the Red Cross, a local library, and will be at a hospital this summer. Should I just put volunteer hrs totals and then explain in the box provided of what I have done? The same thing for shadowing hrs I have been to a lot of a dentist for shadowing should I list separately or all together?

it doesn't matter. just list them, if the adcoms even glances at that box it will be cursory at most.

I have a question for you. I took a dental radiography course last summer and earned an x-ray license. I really want to put it in there somewhere...does it fit in the extracurricular/dental shadowing category? Also, I took two quarters worth of this pre-dental class called basic dental principles at UCLA. I want to stick that in somewhere too. Lastly, I volunteered at USC mobile clinic one time and several health fairs (dispensing toothbrush, paste, and floss to children and giving oral hygiene instructions), where would those activities fit?

I really want to get in UCLA dental school. Honestly, UCLA and USC are the only schools I really consider going. I'm thinking about applying to just those two schools but that seems very risky.

i thought UCLA dental is prejudiced against taking its own undergrads? I had heard this through the grapevine somewhere, dunno how valid it is.

you can list all of them in that extracurriculars box.. since they're by definition not of school's curricula. It won't really matter where you stick them in... out of the thousands of applications adcoms read, they're not goign to hunt for these details nor are they goign to even remember any of them...

I don't think that's true. I know 5 UCLA undergrad who got in UCLA. There may be more out there from UCLA.
