"The suspect, identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, opened fire at a military processing center at Fort Hood around 1:30 p.m., Cone said. Three others initially taken into custody for interviews have been released, Cone said.
Hasan, 39, is a graduate of Virginia Tech and a psychiatrist licensed in Virginia who was practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, according to military and professional records. Previously, he worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. ..."

He was indeed. He apparently was working for Walter Reed and received poor evaluations, and transferred him to Ft. Hood for reasons that are unclear to me. The media states that he held anti-military views in regards to the "overseas contingency operations" and made this well known.

His cousin was on Fox News and presented as entirely scripted and odd. He then hung up the phone abruptly after claiming that there was basically nothing wrong with him other than his displeasure at having been assigned for deployment in Iraq or Afghanastan.

I'm just wondering what happened to the initial reports of:
1. Him being dead (he's alive)
2. The small AND large arms fire (now it's just small)
3. The fact that so many people were shot with two handguns (reloading?)
4. He was called a convert to Islam, and now he's a life-long Muslim
5. The fact that two others were in custody as well, then changed to one other, now no-one at all.
6. His computer has suicide-bombing postings on it that apparently he wrote.
7. There is (as we speak) an Orlando office shooting with few details.

Guess we'll just have to sit back and wait to see what the gov't allows us to know.

^ It's so horribly sad that we have to think like this. But, at this point in American history, I'd say that anybody who isn't a cynic and a skeptic is a sheep and a *****.

This is pretty over the top. The military isn't obligated to release details to the civilian media, and why would they care to? Inaccuracies in the reporting of the event aren't a sign of big brother suppressing the facts, and it's kind of naive to assume that the government could control media access to the facts even if they wanted to.

The military may do a psychological autopsy on the guy. This could answer questions, though the military might not divulge the information to the public.

I'm not surprised he's a psychiatrist. I'm not inferring that I'd expect a psychiatrist to do something bad like this. I'm saying that anyone in any profession can have a breakdown where they do something like this--doctor, priest, fireman, police officer or any other profession that society sees in a positive light.

Assuming he is guilty and did commit the crime, I hope the military uses an older disciplinary method of theirs - firing squad.

First, whopper needs to perform a psychological autopsy. My father was a funeral director so I have seen many autopsies however I have never heard of a psychological autopsy.

Well not so fast!

I was under the possibly incorrect impression that he was on death's door. However some of the more recent articles of the event I read said he was in stable condition.

If that's the case---they could just interview him--if he cooperates and do a regular investigation.
