There are some programs out there that reserve 1 or 2 months for ICU/CCU, but there are some programs that have open ICU/CCU in which the primary team follow patients into and out of the unit. What's y'all's preference? How do I evaluate which program's structure is right for me?

I'm in a residency that follows the patients on service no matter what. It makes for an increased load when a few end up in the ICU but there is no better continuity of care. We stay the primary as well and consult when we need to do so.

We do have a dedicated month in the ICU as well which gives us more procedures. I wouldn't want to do it any other way.

If you do hospital when you finish, you'll be more comfortable knowing when to put and pull your patients to and from the ICU as well as when to call in the specialists.
