Hey all,

I'm postponing my DAT until May 22nd at 11:30...my question: is this too late to take the exam for the first time? I will be giving myself two solid weeks to prepare for it after my semester finals are over and that way I can soley focus on the DAT and nothing else. I have been using a Kaplan Online anywhere class since last December and have intermittently been studying for my DAT since then while trying to focus on my semester exams which arent going as planned. My practice exam scores have gone from an embarrassing 14:15:16 AA and thats not cutting it for me especially since I havent been focusing only on the DAT. I will be applying for this application cycle in June!!!

Any words of encourgament advice?

Two weeks is definitely not enough if you are starting from scratch, I think a month of pure DAT studying is a minimum. It really depends on you though since everyone's knowledge base and test taking skills is different. The main thing is if you think you are ready or not. Better if you are a month late with submitting scores, than to have a score... say 2 pts lower...

Oh and you'll never feel 100% ready, I don't think anyone does, I say the best judge is to just pick up a destroyer and flip to a random question, and if you know how to do 8/10, you're in good shape. Good luck!!

If you are getting those scores on a Kaplan test, I would say it's not a good judge on how you will do. I took the class and was getting 16s on the kaplan test and have been getting 18s on all three Top score test, with simple mistakes. I would take a topscore test and let that be the judge.

i'm actually gonna wait til June 7th because my top dental school said I can just fax in the unofficial score after I'm done and deadline is Oct. 1st to send in all materials. wont be starting from scratch necessarily, but just focusing on it alone will give me 3-4 weeks to study in addition to what i've done so far. thanks for the advice!
