for your dat prep, you don't have to spend $1500 on a kaplan course, but I would fork out the cash for a used dat destroyer, crack dat pat, maybe a used international edition campbells bio (older 6th edition), used kaplan bb, Used cliffs AP bio, and maybe some college algebra book. Best investment you'll ever make besides dental school tuition.
