I am currently a rising senior in college. I was interested in medicine my entire life but that was before I started shadowing doctors. After talking with many doctors, I've realized medicine isn't for me. In fact, many even recommended looking into another field as the quality of life of a doctor is going downhill.

I am considering transferring to a community college before graduating from my school. I will just have my high school send my transcripts and start fresh. I will do 2 years at community college before transferring out to a prestigious school where I can finish my education. The reason I am thinking about pursuing this path is because most schools that I'm looking at (top 20) only allow sophomore/junior transfers and don't allow students to attain a second bachelor's degree. I chose to go to a mediocre school due to medical school education being so costly but now since I have no ambition to pursue medicine, I need to get into a great school where I can start a new beginning of my life.

I know this is long but let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance
 
You can't just start a new life like this. Whatever coursework you ever attempted in college in the US will forever stay on your transcript. If you didn't do well in your classes thus far (have a GPA lower than 3.0) your absolutely best plan of action would be to finish whatever degree you started and then do pre-health post bac degree\certificate, where you will be taking only prerequisite courses for med school and mcat.
 
your best bet would probably be to get your university to allow you to extend your graduation date, then finish your degree in whatever you actually want to study now.

what do you plan to study now? It would probably help others give you advice..

it seems like OP is going away from medicine and wanting to start over without medicine as the career path. No need for a post-bacc or pre-med requirements..

Or maybe I read that wrong?

You are right I think that post was just confusing. Anyway there's no point for OP to transfer to a community college because he is already a senior. Even if he doesn't go into medicine he can't just erase whatever coursework he completed and start over.

Edit: I think the OP is just a very confused student. If you look at his other 3 messages he was planning on taking mcat only 4 weeks ago and now he changed his plans after apparently shadowing a doctor in this time frame Oo

Don't drop out and restart school. Finish your degree and either go back for another bachelor's, go vo-tech, or get a graduate degree.

You are right. I don't have low grades. I have a competitive gpa for medical schools. I am not looking to do postbacc of any sort because I know I will get into medical school without it. I just wanted a career change into banking. Thats why I want to restart so I can get a perfect 4.0 in all my classes as a freshman and sophomore at community college. Then I can transfer to a top 20 school as a junior.
 
Wait, you're posting on a forum to help people get into med school... and asking how to go into a different field?

As someone stated, you can't just start over. You have to report ALL college coursework EVER attempted. You may sneak your way into a small community college without reporting your past grades (which I doubt you can even do this), but you can make a sure bet that any top 20 or even top 150 school will immediately see that you haven't sent all of your coursework. I know that a lot of people think "why not? It's my choice whether or not I want the credits", but consider the students who get very poor grades and try to do things like this to hide their past mistakes.

Edit: To add some actual advice, if your GPA is competitive for medical school then I think you shouldn't have a problem transferring to a great school as-is. You just need to find a program that works for you.

If your grades are top-notch, try transferring to a top university into a program where not all of your credits will transfer toward your degree. For example, as a finance major, you'd probably need to do another two years to accumulate the credits you'd need for the degree. But don't do anything stupid -- like go back to CC... That makes the transfer problem worse, not better.

Cautionary tale to premeds who knowingly choose sup-par undergraduate schools ---
If you don't get in, or change your mind, all the credentials you'll have will be a sub-par undergraduate bachelors' degree.

What kind of banking are you hoping to do?
 
OP, the advice you're looking for not come from SDN. There is probably an academic advisor or someone at your UG that knows more about requirements for transferring.

You can't erase your past. Many of the schools that won't accept second bachelor's candidates won't take a guy who nearly completed a degree, went back to a community college, then transferred in, nor will Wall Street take such a candidate seriously. Spend some time on the WSO and SA forums, this site isn't the place for IB garbage.

My question is that lets suppose I enter community college without showing previous college coursework, how will a top 20 school figure out I have already been to college? For all they know, I took years off after high school and decided to go back to pursue a higher education.

There is a National Clearinghouse for this data (not to mention that newfangled internet). You would need a plausible explanation for the time spent in college that would necessarily be false.
Others have tried this and failed. My saddest example was an acquaintance expelled from Boalt Hall after spectacularly completing his "new undergrad degree" at Cal. He covered up a lackluster career in a small TX school only to be discovered almost 7 years later. I don't know of any successes.

I guess I should be thankful for having a great academic record that would allow me to apply to medical schools. I will continue my family legacy and become a doctor. I'm sure I'll be a great doctor. Hopefully I'll see you Sdner's in med school 🙂 Thanks for all the advice.
 
Even if you haven't applied for aid, colleges report to a system called the National Student Clearinghouse. It tracks every college you've ever attended, what credentials you hold, and what degrees you have completed. One call to them at any point during admissions would have any chance of admission completely ruined, and, were you to be admitted then they later found out you had attended another institution, you could have your degree or enrollment rescinded. Don't screw around with your future man. Do things right.
