I will be entering high school as a freshman in late August. As I was contemplating what classes I wanted to take, I thought about doubling up on math this year. My high school requires 3 credits of math, this is 2 of them. I will take 4 credits of math though. At any rate, I was hoping for some comments about my schedule. Do you think I made good decisions to be a future med student? Here it is:

Honors Geometry
Honors Algebra II
English 9
Global Village [Social Studies required class]
Spanish I
Art I
Lab Earth Science
Physical Fitness [PE Class]

Freshman year.:scared: Well don't bury yourself too much, two math classes usually hurts your grade a little. But it is possible. Just persevere, be sure to take trig and Calculus. It's a good schedule for a freshman so good job, but remember to take some fun classes, you might find something you love more than being a doctor.

Take it easy on the math. You can still take calc your senior year if you just take one math class this year. Other than that, it looks good.

Please don't sweat your schedule in high school. Colleges care more about your GPA and SAT/ACT than what classes you took.

i agree with the above poster. you dont have to double up on the math because you will have plenty of time to get those 3 credits of math. i believe the traditional high school math path goes something like this: 9th-geo, 10th-algebra 2 w/trig, 11th- precal, 12th cal.

unless you want to dual enroll senior year to cal 3, you shouldnt double up.
finishing cal by junior year and taking no math senior year is not a good idea either because you'll forget a lot of the math you've learned.

besides, you wont be required to know super advanced calculus for med school. i believe two semesters of calculus is the most they require (so usually people take cal 1 and cal 2).

actually colleges do care about what classes you take. rigor of your schedule is a very important factor in undergrad admissions. they want to see youve challenged yourself and took a lot of AP classes/tests.

Global Village

seriously ... what happened to good old fashion western history

please try to resist the brainwashing ...

I think that you are fine overall, but you shouldn't burden yourself with too many classes that require more effort than other classes might. So instead of Honors Algebra II I would just take Honors Geometry, especally since it is going to be your freshman year. In future years you can take two math classes if you want, but for now, I wouldn't. Also, medical school is not in the near future. For now, you should concentrate on doing good in your classes and learning good study skills.

I would also suggest taking just one of the math classes. Geometry was one of the hardest classes for me in high school - it's the kind of thing that you either get or you don't, and if you don't, you've got to put a ton of work in.

And oh man, "Global Village?" Hahahahahahahahaha, that just cracks me up. Someone at your school district in charge of curriculum is a fan of Hillary Clinton.

I bet in Global Village there is one villager who still gets to boss around all of the other villagers and tell them that it is for their own good. 😀

As for the thread....you have time, so you may want to only take 1 math class at first.

Global Village? Schools have such strange requirements sometimes. Sounds like an expansion pack for The Sims.

Anyway, only go for the two maths if you're above average at math or like math a lot. One math class can be headache enough if you don't like the subject too much, at least in my opinion...
