I am a freshman in college and my goal is to go to med school and become something doctor related or health related. Except there are so many options for me, it all seems really confusing. I am also not sure what to expect in the next eight years, I have heard different things from different sources. Can anyone clear it up or refer me to a book or a website on what I should be doing and expecting in the next eight years. Thank you

Paul

I am wondering the same thing and am a college freshman as well. I mostly want to know when and how I go about taking the MCAT. Right now I am getting involved in tutoring adult learners to help build up my extra curricular. I know we should be looking into research programs but I don't know if that is more so for when we are juniors? Any clarification would be very helpful!

Look into MCAT forum and SN2ed's 3 month schedule.

Yes, start the research you enjoy and join a productive lab as a freshman. It's better to start early!

Alright, thanks! Do you think I should start studying for the MCAT already? I've heard people say I should and then others say to just enjoy the beginning years of college. If I should, how?

Focus on your pre-req courses as a freshman.

Many typical pre-meds take MCAT any time between the end of sophomore year and that of junior year--you submit your applications at the end of your junior year, so look at your schedule and see when you will be done with taking your core science courses (organic chem, general chem, physics, and some biology). Start studying for MCAT during a semester with light course load or during summer. Make sure you have enough time to go through that 3 month schedule. All the details are in that MCAT forum and SN2ed schedule, so I would look into these for more information.

What Lya said is absolutely correct as to the timing of it all. Don't worry about studying for the test now. Just focus on learning the material in your classes. If you do any "studying" for the MCAT I would just suggest reading more stuff like the Economist just to get used to the wording and style of verbal passages on the test.
