So my freshman year at Undergrad, i didn't do too hot.
Intro to human bio-i got a C
Principles of Bio:cell/molecular-i'm looking at probably a B or a C.

this summer i'm taking Chem I
this fall i'm taking Anat & Phys
& from here on out i'm taking a lot more sciences.

If i do as well as i expect to do on all of my future sciences, will I be okay for med school? or should i already start looking into redoing these classes?

[i plan to work incredibly hard to get A's in the rest of my sciences-i know i can do it, just living on campus i got mixed in with the wrong people and didn't try at all at school, but i have turned that around now]

redo the courses.

if you got a B or C in first year courses. you probably dont know crap about basic sciences. advanced courses build on those.

How many college credits have you earned and what is your GPA so far? What do you expect this semester's GPA to be?

i've earned 18 creds & after this semester i'll have 35. my gpa is at a 2.8 for last semester. & i'm hoping it'll go up a bit this semester. but i'm taking summer courses & for the rest of my semesters here at undergrad I'm going to be working extremely hard to get straight A's.

See, that's the thing, I do know about basic sciences, I just got caught up in the wrong group of friends and I skipped class a lot and never studied. I know that if I go to class everyday and take the time to study the material thoroughly I could get an A. So that's what I'm planning on doing since I plan not to live on campus anymore.

So let's say that your cGPA after the current term where you do better is up to a 3.0. Then after a year of 4.0, you'd be at 3.5. At the end of junior year, you'd be at 3.66 cGPA, which is near the average of those accepted to MD med schools.

If instead you averaged 3.7 for 2nd and 3rd year, you'd only be at 3.46 after junior year, but with a 4th year of 3.7, you'd still arrive at a reasonably competitive 3.6 cGPA.

With less glorious GPAs you could still bale yourself out by spending a fifth year in college or getting into a Special Masters Program (SMP) or with a very high MCAT score. You also have the option of applying to DO schools, which are more lenient and allow for grade replacement, which MD schools do not.

So despite a mediocre freshman year, you're not out of the game yet. As to retaking classes: if you didn't understand a prerequisite class or got a grade below a C, you could consider retaking it. Hopefully, your new work ethic will have a major effect on your grades this term so that you pull a B grade out of Principles of Bio.

Thank you so much for your advice. it made me feel a lot better. I plan on spending 5 years at undergrad anyways because there's quite a few courses I plan on taking - & I plan on double majoring & maybe triple minoring. So I hoped that would help my cGPA. Is that normal to take 5 years though? like, when would I take the MCAT & apply to MD schools if I knew right now that I'm taking 5 years at undergrad?

when am i supposed to submit my application? i'm just confused because i know you submit it end of junior year, but since i'm staying here 5 years do i do it end of my senior year?

Many take a five year path to graduate. In such a case the earliest you would apply would be the end of the fourth year. If you needed more GPA repair then you'd wait.
