Girl I know got rejected from a school for not having a letter of rec that proved that she shadowed a doc. The school told her that they simply cant take her word for it. They need proof that she went to the hospital.

My question is, would that be the same case with research? Would they not believe that I did research if I couldnt get a letter of rec? Would it be as drastic as not having shadowing? (im guessing and hoping no)

You list contact numbers on your amcas for schools to speak with the physician or activity supervisors though I doubt they call each one. You do not need a letter from everything you do. The girl you know is not telling you something.

Correction: girl you know told you that was why she got rejected. 😉

There has to be more to this story. It's possible she applied to a school (most DO schools, I think) that required a LOR from a doctor and she didn't provide one.

You know you're a nerd when you read "LOTR" as "Lord of the Rings".

Edit: Posted the same exact time as ^^, lol

I was just messing with the OP. I actually have never seen LOTR.

Not a nerd in the slightest ;-)

I was thinking the same. I think many, if not all, DO schools require LOR/letter from DO.

My friend got into 2 schools and she got none from a doc. She got 2 from her 5 years ago professors and 1 from her current boss...like someone said, she might be not telling you something.

Some M.D. schools (on top of DO) do require a letter of rec from a physician or someone who supervised you in a clinical setting though. U of A comes to mind, but they will still interview (just won't accept you) if you don't have one...

But that can't be the only reason. Oh well, not your problem? 😛

Yea...no. The girl lied. They look at the person as a whole and it doesn't matter if you have a letter from a doc or not just like research doesn't matter. It looks great but if you are well rounded it won't matter.
