I don't doubt that age bias and discrimination occurs. But a lot of older SDN types seem to have come through the process successfully without facing any that they are aware of. I've also come across adcom members who were themselves nontrads, so they may have their own biases going the other way. All I can suggest is that when we get further in our careers, we do what we can to pave the road for the next generation.
What statue or law does it violate? The equal protection clause? I'm curious... Does this apply to private institutions? (If they accept federal monies than it might...)
I don't think schools age discriminate for applicants < 35 years old, but if someone is 50 and is applying to medical school then age should be a factor. They simply have very few years ahead of them to contribute to our health care system. Med school positions are a limited resource (unlike other countries where just about anyone can go to med school, but finding work is more difficult).
In the end I doubt there are more than a few dozen 50+ applicants each year. So it's not a big deal.
