Whats up. Ok, I finished reading through biochem, did goljan audio nutrition and did all the biochem questions in world. average score after all 198 or so biochem questions was 53%. Im feel stuck. I cant bring myself to suck it up and move on to micro because of the low scores. I know that world is tough and I believe the average was 51% for everyone else in biochem. Any advice. Did others feel this way? One more question, do you feel its best to stick to one qbank? I did some questions in the first aid qbook and BOMBED the biochem part! and this is after doing and revising all the world questions! My confidence came crashing down after that and I guess thats the reason why Im asking if I should stick to one qbank. Thanks fr the responses. much appreciated

you should be really doing mix questions, everyone has a week and strong subjects so at the end it balances out
see how you do on mix questions and thats the best way to access where you are

Bro, Biochem is usually most peoples' weak subject...at least it is mine. If 53% is your weak subject, then you are in really good shape. For example, if you get 50-55% on biochem, micro, and embryo...but if you manage to pull in 70% or so in other subjects, it all balances out. In other words, you can afford the hit in one or two subjects.

For biochem on the step, are many of the questions related to the pathways or the diseases?

I have the majority of the diseases down, it is just the pathways that kill me.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I am going to be a broken record soon, but here goes:

just do First Aid!

There are very few pathways in FA, and I say: memorize them all. It won't take long--promise!

I was also very frustrated after doing biochem for almost a week and feeling like I had gotten nowhere. I realized now that it is behind me that you truly do have to leave the material, move on to something else, and it will start to gel. You'll come back to it while doing questions and also on days when you don't feel like studying what you have been studying. You need time to digest it in the back of your head. Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the people who say all the biochem you need to know is in First Aid. I had to use another book in order to really start to UNDERSTAND the stuff in First Aid, but it is a wonderful guide to keep you focused - there is a whole world of biochem out there that you don't need to know for the step...thank god.

GOOD LUCK! I didn't start to feel like I was in the groove until week 3 or so of studying. Then something magical happened and I just suddenly felt like it was all starting to make sense.

Yesterday, it struck me how now that I've taken Step 1, I'll never ever have to do microbio or biochem ever again in my life. (Right?) Woo hoo! Two seriously despicable topics.
