Hey, I am relatively new to this mcat process, and I am looking for practice tests.

The only ones I know of are the AAMC tests like 3R, 5R etc. My first question is, how many of these AAMC tests are available?

Also, what are good places to get other good practice full length tests. What I am really looking for, is a list or compilation of the best available full length tests? Im guessing that the AAMC are the best since they are original questions. I tried searching for something like this but I couldn't find anything. Thanks for the info.

There are 6 AAMC practice tests: 3R, 4R, 5R, 6R, 7, and 8. The "R" stands for revised as the current MCAT is different in section order and length from some previous administrations of the test. Thus, tests 3-6 were revised to match the current test structure.

Other commerical prep companies put out practice tests as well. For example, Kaplan itself has more than 11 practice tests. (There are additional ones that you can buy in their books, etc.) Other companies such as Examkrackers (eK) and Princeton Review (TPR) write practice tests as well.

Generally, people have noted that the AAMC tests usually provide the most accurate predictions on what score you'll get on the real MCAT. However, in my experience, my scores on the Kaplan tests were close to my scores on the AAMC practice tests, too. Kaplan tests just tended to be much harder than the AAMC tests, but their scoring scales are curved so that you basically get around the same score.

I can't say which tests are the "best," but you should take the AAMC ones to get an idea of what the questions are like and then probably take some Kaplan ones to train yourself for greater difficulty. The real MCAT (I took the Aug 2005 administration, form CT) was somewhere between the AAMC and Kaplan tests in difficulty.

Thanks for the response. I just had one more question. You know how you have to purchase the AAMC tests seperately. How to do you purchase these Kaplan tests. Are they part of a book that contains all eleven or do they come in their comprehensive review booklets. I am trying to gather as many practice tests as possible and looking for an efficient way to do it. Thanks.

Kaplan doesn't sell its 11 proprietary tests in book form, I don't think. I had access to them because I was taking a Kaplan course. However, I did accidentially purchase them off of Ebay for $10 when I was trying to get some cheap practice materials. This isn't exactly legal (cough), but I'd bet that there are still sellers...

Also, you can pay Kaplan to take full length tests at their centers. I forget the fee, but I think it's something like $80.

that price is per exam?

This I don't quite remember. Just call your local Kaplan center to ask - they're normally pretty helpful since they want your money...

Also, if you talk to people who have taken Kaplan tests in the past, they can probably hook you up 🙂.

Plus I don't know what's
that poster's deal, she/he
does not reply emails...

What's the big idea mate?
