here's the full email that Pitt sent me today, if anyone was interested:

Greetings!

Before you hear from us regarding a secondary application, The
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has a pre-screening process.
Screening takes approximately 3-4 weeks after the physical arrival of
your verified AMCAS application to our office. We started screening
applications around the 15th of August. We will notify you either way
if you are receiving a secondary or not. We only ask that you be
patient during this process. Thank you.

I got that, too. Maybe they're sending it out to everyone who hasn't received a secondary yet due to what is probably the large volume of calls to their office? Seeing as they're now rolling, they're putting a lot of applicants at a pretty considerable disadvantage taking so friggin' long. And why they didn't just send out secondaries according to AMCAS date, I have no idea. Oh well.

Yes, I received that pleasant e-mail as well... Can't say that I'm impressesed with how Pitt does their admissions process. Like many other applicants, my AMCAS was verified at the beginning of July, which has been 2 months ago. I wish I could request my 40 dollars back from AMCAS, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

At the least, it would have been nice to have received some sort of acknowledgement from Pitt that I even applied to their program. errr... 😡

if you read the other pitt thread, you'll see that other people got a secondary email and in some cases an interview invite right afterwards without getting this email first. my view of this email is that we are being out on hold for rejection without the secondary. 👎

It's not. I received that email earlier today and just got the secondary.

Pitt's email writing is pretty suspect. I got an interview invite from them today, containing the sentence: "Outstanding applicants such as yourself are selected only after a rigorous screening process." This is hilarious because I'd just submitted my secondary about 8 hours previously. I think they're generally disorganized and not good at telling us what they're actually up to... but I hope you all hear from them soon!

Question: Were most of the people who have gotten secondaries verified in June and they're just being slow about everyone, or have most people (incl those verified in July and August) gotten secondaries already? I skimmed through some of the Pitt thread and couldn't really find an answer. Thanks

I was verified in mid-June, and got the secondary yesterday. So I think they're just being slow....

If that's really true, why even bother? Are they saving themselves that much work later on, especially when not everyone completes the secondary? I don't see the point in screening before offering secondaries unless >50% are eliminated.
