Maybe I'm thinking too much (or not enough), but I find the use of "average matriculant GPA" to be quite ambiguous. Is this the mean GPA per accepted student or the mean GPA of the accepted pool? The latter would be completely useless, as outliers would drastically alter the reported mean of the GPA.

80 3.7's and 20 2.6's = mean GPA of 3.48.

This would be a good way to mislead people with lower GPA's to apply to their school and gobble up more money. What gives?

It's the mean GPA of all the people accepted in the class. Yes, they average all the GPA's from the lowest of the low to the highest of the high. Some schools give you a range of accepted GPA's (for example, KCOM's range is 2.8 to 4.0 if my memory serves).

I can see by your most recent posts that you're getting slightly worried about the application process. Just relax. The numbers are what they are. You'll always meet someone with a 4.0 that didn't get into med school, and someone with a 2.5 that did. Everyone's story is different. The only thing that's always constant is that the guy with a 4.0 that didn't get in will almost always blame Affirmative Action 😀

yes, you're right

"Maybe I'm thinking too much..."

Doesn't GPA mean Grade Point Avg. though. So it is an avg of an avg.. But in the case of multiple schools attended it would have to be a weighted avg of an avg.
