I am going to be swimming and lounging by the pool; reading and walking on the beach; visiting friends in Pennsylvania and parents in Ohio; daydreaming about my life and scheduling days up to the actual move-- it can be relaxing 🙂-- remember we are pre-vets who like lists; browsing my favorite stores; taking beginner riding lessons; cooking/experimenting with cooking; barbecuing and throwing a picnic in mid-July; training my cat, Tiger to WALK on a leash instead of laying down in the middle of the sidewalk. I find joy and relief in organization-- so I am also looking forward to cleaning and organizing, THROWING away things can be a stress-reducing. How about you guys?

Oooo, definitely already making lists as to what I need to bring (need to buy LOTS of winter clothes!) and what I get to throw away before I move! 😀

My summer festivities include:

- the beach
- quitting my job!
- going to Italy with my bf (next week!)
- finishing my Animal Nutrition class (it's not required for Iowa, so I'm being lazy about it, lol)
- planning my best friend's bachelorette party :meanie:
- volunteering at the aquarium (I'll be sad to leave that place)
- enjoying the lovely warm climate while I still can!

Love this thread! Thanks for starting it so instead of starting to freak out about vet school I can look forward to fun things in the summer.

- Road trip / backpacking with my two best friends in the UP
- Backpacking in Big Sur
- Camping with my BF and boston terrier
- Taking some cycling trips
- Working out
- Going to Lake Michigan
- Visit my sister/brother in law in Chicago
- Sailing with my dad
- Quit my job!!!!!! 🙂
- Get in some reading FOR FUN before school

I'd like to plan a big vacation for summer 2010 specifically for this reason. I just have to be like 47389578439% sure that I *will* get in! Otherwise I think I'd feel guilty.

I've already told myself I can't cut my hair until I get in. I hate long hair and mine is currently 2 inches past my shoulders. ARG. 2 inches is supposed to be the total length! Haha.

I second the reading for fun thing (though I can do that a bit this summer if I want) and also watching TV without feeling guilty. (i.e. "Man, I should be doing homework/studying for this/ reading ahad in that etc...")

dang it. I don't have anything cool on my list.

-Reading
-Working
-Helping at shelter

I'm so broke I can't do much.

Any suggestions - fun stuff for broke people?

Here's my list...

- Husband's 30th Bday party:hardy:
- Trip to Cancun:banana:
- Working out at the gym🙄
- Reading
- Taking my dog to this great new dog park I found
- Painting a bedroom
- Planning my move to Madison
- As much riding as I can fit in😀

Oooh, I like this list!

My plans:

-see the local bands that I like as much as possible before I leave
-read a ton about environmental studies/conservation/policy/thought
-go running (almost) every day
-get used to "my new car" (really my dad's 9 year old hand-me-down)
-play music (violin and guitar)
-and my favorite/most wacky: film my own nature show! I plan to call it "Planet: Suburbia"!
-oh, and maybe get/lose a (very part-time) job.

Good broke-people stuff I plan to be engaging in heavily:

- Birding (all you need is a field guide, a pair of binoculars, and transportation and you're set for life!)
- Hanging out with friends at parks or at home
- Digital photography
- Throwing away all the crap I don't need, haha
- Attempting to sell some of said crap
- Yoga
- Writing (both reflections on life, and fiction)

Darnit...my list sucks. lol. Not only am I poor, but I need to finish up my MPH. So...here's my lame-o list!

Wow, you guys are doing some really fun stuff this summer! I like all of the "quitting my job" posts 😀 I, on the other hand, am a glutton for punishment and will be working most of the summer. So here's my list:

-cruise to the western Carribean with the bf (check this one off! it was awesome)
-working at the small animal hospital (in progress)
-reading for pleasure while I have the money to buy books and the time to get through them (btw, All Creatures Great and Small is the best book ever and I can't believe I never read it until this summer. truly an inspiration.)
-beach time, of course
-heading out to Texas to help/get in the way of a large animal veterinarian and staying at a family friend's ranch
-moving to Columbus, if I ever find a roommate that is

here are my summer plans

producing and spinning music
DJing in clubs
working out at the gym
spending time at the beach
hanging out with my gf
enjoying california to the utmost
anything else that is fun and not involving work 🙂

(btw, All Creatures Great and Small is the best book ever and I can't believe I never read it until this summer. truly an inspiration.)

About a year or two ago, people started asking, "Oh, have you read James Herriot books?" And every time, I was completely clueless. And I finally got around to reading them, and yeah...they ARE totally inspirational.

Although I am very glad that we use gloves these days.

Although I am very glad that we use gloves these days.

Totally agree! Makes you realize how easy we have it these days... especially now that we have medicines that actually work.

I read the biography "The real James Herriot: a Memoir of My Father" by James Wight.

Talk about sad and inspiring at the same time.

I'm working this summer - but in a fun outdoor job! Doing wildlife research in a National Forest. I leave for that in a couple of weeks and until then it's all about relaxing, training my dog, seeing friends from home and catching up on reading.

Thanks!
Now I feel a little less freaked out about quitting my job!! It's actually a good thing!
So my activities will be:
Riding my horse as much as I can.
Training my three year old Arabian to ride.
Praying I won't fall off of young Arab and break a bone before school.
Organizing...
Going to the beach.
Organizing...
Taking a vacation with husband to somewhere, anywhere.
TRYING TO RELAX before starting -OMG- vet school!!!:scared:

i'm not too sure my list is all that great, but there are a couple things i am WAY excited about...

-going to mexico with best friend
-spending LOTS of time at the dog park
-teaching the pup how to swim (he's scared!)
-laying by the pool/working on my tan
-working (a lot!)
-quitting work!!!!!!! I never thought I would be so excited to quit a job 😳
-moving to ft. collins
-getting to know ft. collins
-school starts!

I'm spending my much of my summer finishing off my MS in Biochem, but here are a few other things I have planned:

1. Spending time with my wife and 5 month old son.
2. Fly fishing
3. Visiting relatives and friends before moving out to Minnesota
4. Hopefully going to the Boston Aquarium one more time (I love that place.)
5. Spending as much time by the ocean as possible. . . .I know MN is the land
of 10,000 lakes but nothing beats the mighty Atlantic. 😀

My summer won't be as fun as I had hoped, but it will be productive

1. Work to make lots of money only to spend it all on fees! yay!
2. Crochet cute things for my cousins as going away presents.
3. Makes LOTS of clothes/sweaters/warm things
4. Enjoy my puppies
5. Watch lots and lots of movies and read lots and lots of books
6. Learn japanese?!?!?
7. Dive at least once
