In the process of studying microbio and pharm (two of the subjects that involve the most rote memorization) i'm making up mnemonics to help me along; looking over them, some of them came out pretty out there. So I thought I'd start a contest of who can come up with the funniest mnemonic for whichever subject you're stuyding. Post up your best shot so we could all have a laugh over how pathetic our life now is🙂 Here's my favorite so far

Let me take this opportunity to be candid with your asparagus

(to help me remember that aspergillus and candida are opportunistic fungi🙂

for type of innervation of cranial nerves:

Some Say Marry Money But My Brother Says Big Boobies Matter Most

In line with the cranial nerves -
Oh, Oh, Oh, To, Touch And Feel A Girl's Vagina, Ah Heaven!

you forget one of the V's...but anyway...
if you replace a few words here you've got yourself one of the most dirty/degrading/immorral mnemonics I've ever seen...and the one that I will NEVER forget:

Feel---> f&%k
1st V (before Girl)--->Virgin
Ah---->And
Heaven--->Hymen

you can thank (or slap) me later...

Wouldn't we fail gross anatomy if we needed pneumonics just to memorize the names of the cranial nerves? I'm barely passing and i know them all offhand. Off topic, but still.

I like the branches of the external carotid pneumonic:

Some Lonely F*ckers Only Prefer Anal Self Masturbation

Also branches of the facial nerve:

Ten Zebras Bit My Crotch

(Sidebar: How likely is THAT scenario?)

I think finals are making me loopy...

Branches of the maxillary a.

Another Carpal bones one -

Biochem one: (TCA cycle)

Can I Keep Selling Sex For Money Officer?
Citrate Isocitrate (alpha)KG etc. etc.

We learned this one as: "To Zanzibar by Motor Car: Two Zebras Bit My Chihuahua." Two for one!

Along the same lines, I am a fan of "S2,3,4 keep the penis off the floor"

i learned it as S2,3,4 keeps the penis, poop, and pee off of the floor.....thats a damn good one :horns:

And not to mention G's up Hoes Down (graves vs. hashimoto's)....that one is GENIUS (i got that here on SDN)

For the external carotid branches, we use Some Anatomists Like Fornication, Others Prefer Manual Stimulation. There's a really cool surgery resident who helps teach anatomy and jokes around with us a lot. After he taught the mnemonic to my table, you should have seen his face when I asked him which kind he was!

I was in lab yesterday, trying to memorize the branches of the External Carotid....someone came up to me and said:

SAL Figured Out PMS

Superior Tyroid, Ascending Laryngeal, Lingual, Facial, Occipital, Posterior auricular, Maxillary and Superficial temporal

Good Luck with Finals Everyone! 🙂

How about:

A guy in our class came up with one for the axillary artery:

She Typically Likes Some Anal Penetration

so what does it stand for? (i'm lazy)

Superior thoracic
Thoracoacromial
Lateral thoracic
Subscapular
Anterior humeral circumflex
Posterior humeral circumflex

Thoracoacromial is also known as the Acromial Thoracic artery. So some ppl just memorize it as SALSAP... but it's not funny at all, nor does it mean anything.

First week of gross, first big task was the brachial plexus. Our mnemonic for superior to inferior orientation of the nerves:

My ass really misses undergrad (Musc-cutaneous, axillary, radial, median, ulnar)

Seems like a very long time ago!

Wow, not very detailed.
We had to memorize 4MU, STARS and 2LM

What do these stand for? There's no M for middle meningeal a., for one thing...I'm confused here.

Hey, don't sweat it. I'm just stressing over my head and neck exam this week.

A couple have sprung up here at OU for which nerve is associated with the branchial arches:

TCU Frogs Get Sooner Respect

and

Texas Finally Got Some Revenge

(Trigeminal, Facial, Glossopharyngeal, Superior Laryngeal, Recurrent Laryngeal)

For the 10 cranial nerves:
"Oh, Oh, Oh, To Touch A Firm Vegetable Gives Vegetarians Amazing Happiness"

And for their motor/sensory innervation:
"Some Say Money Matter But My Brother Says Big Balls Matter Most"

Also, the other day some friends and I were discussing mnemonics and we remembered our favorite one from undergrad, the divisions of species (i.e. Kingdom, Phylum, Class. etc):
"Kings Play Cards On Fat Girls' Stomachs"

Fun stuff!! 🙂

Screw The Lawyer Save A Patient is axillary artery, not maxillary 🙂

For terminal branches of the brachial plexus, I used "My Aunt Raped My Uncle"

The external carotid one is out of order. My preferred mnemonic is Some Anatomists Like F***ing; Others Prefer S&M.

Superior thyroid
Ascending pharyngeal
Lingual
Facial
Occipital
Posterior auricular
Superior temporal
Maxillary

External Carotid branches:

Anyone have a pneumonic for remembering all the pneumonics?

InfraMan said:
It's MNEMONIC, people!!!!
Maybe they mean pneumonic plague. 🙂
From the CDC: "Pneumonic plague occurs when Y. pestis infects the lungs. This type of plague can spread from person to person through the air. Transmission can take place if someone breathes in aerosolized bacteria, which could happen in a bioterrorist attack. Pneumonic plague is also spread by breathing in Y. pestis suspended in respiratory droplets from a person (or animal) with pneumonic plague. Becoming infected in this way usually requires direct and close contact with the ill person or animal. Pneumonic plague may also occur if a person with bubonic or septicemic plague is untreated and the bacteria spread to the lungs."
I'm not sure how that helps you remember anatomy, though. 😕

I just came up with this for tarsal bones:

My Insanely Large Cock Never Touches Condoms

Congrats! Your first post is about cock!
Strong start.

To anyone wanting the correct version of the cranial nerves here it is (was posted earlier):

Oh oh oh to touch and feel virgin girls vaginas ah heaven
