Future EC's

I did a search but couldn't find an answer to this. I was wondering if med schools take into account your upcoming, but not completed EC's. For instance, if I'm applying in June and had a new EC that started that month and would continue for the next year, could I put that down and would adcom's give it any weight? Especially if it is a really strong EC. Or if I were to do a summer research program the summer I apply (after I submit my AMCAS early June) and list that?

And going farther into the future - if I get an interview invite and have took up a new EC since submitting my AMCAS, would I be able to update the med school and would adcoms consider it along with all my ones on my AMCAS?

Any weight? Yes, but you need to have plenty of other ECs and experiences that you've already done. They want to know what you've accomplished not what you will accomplish; however, seeing that you will continue to do ECs even though they are not going to help you will actually help you. I had several interviewers comment on the fact that I am planning to continue to do medical mission trips and ECs after the application process.

As long as an activity has begun, you can list it on your application. The Experiences section doesn't allow for future dates though, so you can only enter it "until present." The way to let schools know about developing activities is through Secondary essays, during interview conversations, or via update letters through the cycle. Planned activities are unlikely to be regarded, so when you have done something new for awhile, let schools know so it has a better chance of being taken into consideration when your file is evaluated.
