I'm currently in the application cycle for dental school and I just want some insight. So far my top pick is ASDOH, they have a sick clinical curriculum.
How does the future of a GP look in terms of Scope of procedures done on patients?
1. Implants. More and more GP's are placing implants in there patients. Some dental schools are even training there students in implants. I know in the past when implantology was first emerging it was mainly done by OMFS or periodontists'.
2. Root canals. Do you see GP's doing more root canal work themselves compared to past years? When i interviewed in ASDOH the dean told me the students graduate with an average of at least a 100 root canal procedures done. some other schools say they only require like 6 or 7.
3. What about sinus lifts and bone grafts, are those primarily done by specialists or can GP's do them too?
4. I know the new hot thing is digital imaging and a lot of GP's are switching over to that. ASDOH has a cone beam it trains it's students in. Do many GP's use cone beams in private practice or do you seem them using it more in the future? I know they are really expensive, but as years pass technology advances and always gets cheaper too, right?
What other procedures do you see GP's doing more in the future???
