hi, im a pre-med with an interest in anesthsia but a somewhat limited knowlegde of the specialty.
I've been wondering about the future of anesthesia in the OR in terms of the procedures and techniques used. Are we at a stage where anesthesia in the OR has come to a point where there is no a great need for new discoveries that would be a great improvement to the current methods? Also if there are improvements, will it be a case of anesthesia developing independantly or just trying to keep up with any new surgeries?
Im not intending to bash this specialty or any doctors in it but i am merely hoping for a better understanding in a field which i am greatly interested.
Thank you for any replies

You have a long road ahead of you. However I appreciate your interest.

There is room in every single medical specialty for new technology, pharmacology, and clinical development. This is especially true in anesthesia where post-op patients are being forced to be discharged earlier and earlier.

As for your second question Anesthesiology is interwoven with Surgery. I don't quite understand what you are asking.
