Future vets please don't do this

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, it smacks of unflattering exclusivity.

It's ok, people will smack down on their first post with intolerant "do a ****ing search ya *****" to welcome them into our inclusive special snowflakes club

I hear what you're saying Calliope and your view point is valid, but we kind of already do it, just our current way is probably a little scary to the more sensitive folks out there. If the site is just automatically prompting them to read through a short list of rules, and asking them some easy questions to make sure they read it, I'd think that would feel less personal and thus less scary. But then again, maybe not. Maybe since that's not a common thing on forums, it might make them worry that maybe we're a really mean community or something. And of course some people wouldn't want to bother with it because they want a forum where they can sign up and post ASAP *sigh* I guess there's no helping everybody.

For the sake of non-newbie members, though, having the forum automatically cut down on newbie mistakes could make the forum experience more pleasant for those here who are really bugged by said mistakes.

I'm trying to think of everybody's needs here xD

Not unless you posted in the special snowflake thread.
Hey...since you're a snowflake...ahem...I mean a SPECIAL snowflake.......you're bros with lots of other snowflakes, right? Can you tell them to come snow on my town? I would really like a white Christmas. 😀

You are insane.

I am so glad this year, so far, has been much milder than last year.

I can't wait to get my desert butt back in the desert. 🙂

I hate all snowflakes, even the special ones.

Don't be all:

Back off. No snowflake hating allowed.

Oh sorry. Nobody told me it was opposite day 😛 See, on most days calling somebody special is a compliment. xD

Seriously though...I thought you and all the other snowflakes would be cool bros 4 life. Dangit. Now I gotta find some other way to get in touch with them.

Blah, you can have all my desert. I hate it. Give me the forest.

I'll mail you all my desert in a package 😛

Winter is my favorite season 😀

And fall is my second favorite...because it ends in winter xD
I feel like only people who don't live in the North say this.

Winter = slipping on ice, fishtailing, freezing your nose hairs, shoveling snow, scraping your car, praying your car starts, hoping you don't have to stop because there's zero traction, wet dogs, eternal darkness, and 2 hour commutes (that used to be 35 minutes).

Yeah, snow is pretty, but winter goes on forever and someday I'll live somewhere with less of it.

true. But you know...there is a happy medium between the great white north and the south. In knoxville it snowed like 2 days-2 weeks every year (with ice sometimes) and that was the perfect amount of winter.

That does sound like the perfect amount of winter.
it really was. Road conditions weren't awful for the most part. there was the issue of roads being bad for longer due to having fewer salt trucks. But really, I liked the winters there. My family is all from upstate NY and I would never want a winter like that

Denver area was perfect. It would snow like 4-5 feet and we could have fun with it. And it would completely melt away in a few days and be at 60 degrees so you don't end up with the months of nasty muddy snowbanks and slush.

Hmm, it's not so hot with rent averaging 1200 for a one bedroom and food being just as bad. And Coloradoans are done with people moving into the state and don't treat new Coloradoans well at all.

Where I live now we're lucky to get a snow dusting that lasts longer than 24 hours. We can go years without a decent snow.

I love the winter because I can do outdoor activities any time of day rather than being limited to the early morning or late afternoon by the blazing sun. Also, our a/c does't cool the house as well as I'd like, so I bake all summer. I get used to it but, still, I like it when it's cold here. I'm always sad when spring takes my cold away.

And the winter time is great for cuddling ^_^

For the record, though, I like shoveling snow. Such a workout! 😀

And slipping on ice...well...I wouldn't say I liked it but when I lived close to the mountains I dealt with that every winter at my middle school and later high school. I was used to it. And WHOO. I am proud of the fact that I slipped 9999999999 times but I never fell once xD

And haha here I am saying this and I'm probably gonna fall the next time I tread on ice. Jinxed!

Yeah, that sounds nice. I wish we had more snow here but not get buried in like 7 feet of it.

Oh that's cute, try moving to NYC, SF, or DC.

But food is waaaay better in any of those areas, so you got a point there.

You forgot about your eyes/eyelashes freezing shut because the wind makes your eyes water, but the wind temp is in the negatives :scared:

Where are you from?

In the North, people dread shoveling snow because it's not uncommon for that activity to cause heart attacks. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind snow (as long as I'm not driving in it, people go waaaaay to fast), but these last two winters have been brutal. It's not pretty when you lose power and it's below zero before wind chill (I think a few elderly folks actually died in their homes), your car just won't start and you have to be at work, or you want to do outdoor winter activities but it's so cold that frostbite is a real danger within 10-20 minutes. I heard that this winter is supposed to be more tolerable, but we'll see.

I've only fallen a few times. I've almost mastered the penguin waddle, so I usually fared pretty well on campus 😛

Also having to own an entire winter wardrobe and needing way too many layers of clothing.

That is the worst part of winter - it's ugly, messy, and depressing to see those dirty piles of snow-covered-with-dirtandexhaust. Ugh. Winter in the country has more snow, but it's at least prettier than in the city.

Hehe! *high fives you for that penguin waddle* I think I did something like that.

I'm in the south west. My area is called the high desert because a lot of it is around 4,000 feet (I think that's the high altitude cut off?). Some nearby mountain towns are Wrightwood and Big Bear.

As for heart attacks, I never had to worry about that because my heart was healthy and I took breaks. Also, I 've never had to shovel more than 8 inches of snow (not counting drifts.) I don't think I'd fare well against like 5 feet 😛 But I don't wanna live somewhere with that crazy of snow. Just more than I used to have.
