I know 😛 but they’re really rare in WA and I’ve never lived so close to one!

My dad lives in Portland, so as soon as my little sister had her license she’d drag me there every morning when I’d visit :laugh: she was obsessed

Lol they are huge in corvallis. There's one a couple blocks from the vet school and several more around campus. Dutch bros is good at what they do (super sugary sweet drinks lol). I had hazelnut hot chocolate from them when going with a couple classmates the other day and they gave me **** haha.

And no way, I am from Portland!!

They opened up one like ten minutes from my mom’s after I moved here. I was so sad.

Yeah! I grew up in Vancouver and then moved up to the Seattle area when I was 10 🙂
 
I hate a lot of those chain places.. they all make their drinks WAY too sweet (looking at you, Mercury's coffee)
The most perfect coffee place I have been to is the little stand outside of my work. They get it just right every time. It's funny though because I pay a different amount depending on the barista... don't quite understand

I know I have been warned haha. I just am confused as to WHY. What exactly is long standing? Does the lounge not like vets? I'm not taking it to heart or anything, just merely a bit perplexed haha

It has more to do with Lounge games generally are made with months of planning and in depth story telling and mechanics. Prevet games are fun, but are perhaps more like television as compared to movies before epic television shows existed. Not saying it is right or wrong, just the way it is.
 
Yeah as I said there's kind of a different WW culture in the lounge when it comes to running games. They are more rare and each is a a carefully crafted production, typically with a lot of time put in. It's just how they roll in Lounge land. They have nothing against vetties in general.

@ziggyandjazzy if you read some of the lounge games, that might give you an idea of the difference.

For example, many of the write ups there are incredibly detailed and some probably even rack up a word count that is something more akin to a novella when all of it is done.

I'm tempted to try to run my Wheel of Time game in the lounge for that reason... but also when push comes to shove I probably won't, because either I will have put so much work into it that I'll be too sensitive to criticism, or I will have given up in the planning stages and know I'll be falling short on the standard.
 
Pros of pre-vet games:
  • We can feed the addiction much more easily
  • High frequency means that WW builds a social environment, not the other way around (where the game is played with people who already talk to each other a lot online)
  • We can cover a lot more themes and also give many more people the chance to be involved in the modding & game design process
  • Players get more practice with playing and often get to experience different roles
Pros of the lounge:
  • Epic stories
  • Extremely well-balanced games that often include original mechanics (that work, because they have been tested by the mods first in mock run throughs)
  • Potentially bigger audience / varied set of players
  • Less frequent = each game inherently feels more special
I rag on the lounge a bit, but that's just because they don't flatter me enough. I think it's good to have both -- they serve different purposes.
 
I feel like at one point pre vet games use to be more complex like that though. I remember when I first started playing the write-ups were insanely long and detailed here, and usually hinted at just about everything that had happened thst cycle behind the scenes. Games also use to be much less frequent.

Like I get that it’s not the game they’re use to, but then just don’t play? They don’t need to be ****ting on it and saying it’s going to “hurt them to see it.” I imagine it’s being run there due to the theme and content, and it’s not like it’s being advertised as lounge game.

Oh for sure. I used to get perturbed by them because some of the games in here were certainly on the same level, but just like the chili debate, no one is likely to change their minds. So eye rolls on both sides and enjoying yourself anyway is the name of the game in my opinion. Chili or beef stew, it's damn delicious.

Like I said before I think it's like if someone showed up here and decided to run a game out of the blue. They would definitely get side eyes. And the lounge is an environment where a side eye turns into a more direct critique lol

Oh my lord... lol yeah my dad worked at a medical school my entire childhood. I know some of the sketchy **** doctors get up to haha. Although some of you are good eggs, for sure.

And his argument is just stupid. My mom had to have multiple foot surgeries bc she was a model in the 80s and had to wear those horrible pointy heels that ****ed up her feet so badly. like, ya think doctors would know heels are terrible for you haha.

Plus, I have no inclination to wear heels as is, and my partner is 2 inches shorter than me, so even better 😛

oh and I wish I could see those pics of cray haha.

I mean, I am very grateful for the doctor who stuck a scope down my throat and took little sections of my innards out. And for the other doc (pathologist) who looked at those little slides and told me my duodenum was ****ed to hell lol

...but also, some doctors are mean. like mean mean. Hehe (although coming from me you may not believe me 😉)

this was my first lounge dumpster fire! It’s been a year and a half in the lounge, and I still love dumpster fires.
