I have had a ton of questions as this is my first time filling out forms for financial aid. So, those who are in a position like me, hope this post helps you. If you're considering private loans as well, this may help you too.
"Hi Jennifer-
You should qualify for the entire $38,500 - $8,500 of this amount will be subsidized (no interest accrues on this portion), the other $30,000 begins to accrue interest as of disbursement.
To qualify for private loans, you must have good credit. We can recommend a few of our most popular programs so that you can begin to apply now and know well in advance whether you qualify or not.
The Master Promissory Note (MPN) included in your packet is for the Federal Stafford Loan, which qualifies you for the $38,500. We (PCOM) are the lender of this program and Wachovia is one of our partners.
As for your parent's 1040, you should include their financial information on your FAFSA to be considered for any need-based institutional funds, although at the present time these funds are very limited for our Georgia students. If you decide to include your parents information on your FAFSA, you will need to send a signed copy to our office once they have filed.
The tuition last year for our DO program was $32,859, but this amount goes up every year. Tuition for the 2005-06 academic year has not yet been determined. The new tuition should be decided sometime in April and the President's office normally sends a letter to all students informing them of
the tuition increase, but you may use last year's tuition for planning purposes and increase it by 5%.
As far as books, computers and lab fees, this information comes from the Office of Student Affairs. I believe they are preparing this information and you should receive it shortly. Also, some of this information is out on our website at
www.pcom.edu - click on the link for New Students. This is a valuable resource for you.
We are also planning to visit Georgia this Spring and host a Financial Aid Workshop. The date is tentatively set for April 29th, but is subject to change, as not all plans have been finalized. I hope that you are able to attend regardless of the date.
I think I have answered all of your questions, but if you still need additional information, feel free to email me. If you are interested in our Private Loan applications, send me your address and I will have one of my staff members send you a packet.
Take care,
Zeli
