Those rings look so b.a. But anyways, for the people who interviewed at mcg, did any of y'all do the student hosting thing? I'm from augusta so I have the option of staying with my parents or with a student. I'm just trying to figure out what I should do.

I wanted to do it, but I interviewed during the last week of class and they were having exams or finals or something. When do you go?

I never really did any of the student hosting thing at any of the schools where I've interviewed. Personally, it always seemed a tad odd staying with a total stranger, though I'm sure the people are nice and all. It would probably help a tad as the person you're staying with would probably show you where to go and everything in the morning if you've never been around the school before. That's the main upside I see...

If I were u , I would stay at my parents and eat hot healthy breakfast and come to interview fresh and energetic. Also, spending time with family can help beat the stress.
my 2 cents.

They look even better with little rubies in the eyes, trust me, I know.

My daughter just order hers with the rubies in the eyes. She graduates in May. I told her I hoped this would be used as a replacement for tatoos.

Good luck to you all.

did they called u and then mailed package or directly mailed package?

no I never got a call, I just got the letter (which was regular letter size but fat)

And for those of you wondering about student hosts: I didn't do it at MCG but seriously wish I did... I did it at other schools and it had a really positive impact. I just drove in that morning so I don't feel like I got the true experience.... that said: I did talk to like 3 really close friends and dispelled all rumors of the area really sucking. They said that it is easy because you don't mind studying so much, but when it came time to have fun, you really never got sick of the few places to go because you were never really there (and I am a huge partier and really need at least my friday nights next year to relieve stress!)

Thanks for all the feedback you guys! I see the pros and cons...I guess it's just something I'll have to think about.

The long MCG drought is finally over for me. I received my acceptance today by mail having interviewed 10/23. Barring an Emory acceptance + lots of $$$, MCG is most likely where I'll be going. Good luck to everyone else in this process.

Congrats!

Bodonid, let me know if you hear anything, I'm guessing since we interviewed together hopefully we'll hear something around the same time. 👍

I am expecting my acceptance tomorrow or Monday, since I live pretty far from Augusta and our local mail service is pretty slow.
Good Luck to you and I am happy to hear about the decisions!

Edit- 10/23? Really? Maybe we won't hear right away. Hope so though.

EM84: Stats? Were you originally EDP? When complete? Thanks!

Got mine today too 😀 Normal size envelope, but fat, as already mentioned. Though I interviewed 10/25, my file wasn't complete until sometime in late November, so that rumor about the adcomm not meeting for a long time may have been true.

Yeah I don't want to get my hopes too much for a decision, as these people all seemed to interviewed pretty early. But who knows 🙂

Grrrrr. I interviewed before you guys. Congrats, though.
🙁 I hope this doesn't mean what I think...

HEY! People that got accepted today! Stats! STAT!

(Haven't they ever heard of MDApps? ...just kidding...)

At least give it another day or so, I don't know how your mail works but for some reason it could take like two or three days just to mail a letter across the small city I live in 😕 Plus I think they re-review applicants through the end so you could probably get an acceptance down the line. Hopefully we all will! :luck::luck:

Nope, I just applied for regular decision. My stats are GPA: 3.65, BCPM: 3.47, MCAT: 31. Secondary complete: 7/24

I guess it helps if you sent your secondary sooner. I was completed like around late december.

Grad in May with GPA = 3.91; MCAT = 33; few shadowing experiences with ER and EMS volunteering; working full time as an EMT for my year off. Regular decision only.

3.55 GPA 35 MCAT less than stellar EC's. Congrats to all of you guys that just got in! Are y'all going there for sure next year?

Thanks guys, I just wanted to get an idea of what kind of applicant gets an October interview. Congratulations and is anyone doing anything exciting between now and med school?

Congrats to everyone!

No mcg news for me today..🙁 Did get a whole bunch of snow though

Snow?? All I got was rain...🙁 R U in north GA, or are you on vacation?

I was gone in parts of december and january and I called home every other day to see whether I had been accepted. 😳

It's been snowing here in Atlanta for hours!

It's snowing!!!

The snow is awesome!! Reminds me of the blizzard in '94..or was it '93?

Good luck to all of you waiting to hear back from MCG. I haven't gotten in yet, but I'm planning on withdrawing. :luck: :luck: to all my GA folks.

Maybe not quite that much snow, at least at my house anyway. I'm surprised you didn't get an acceptance round with the others early on. Just goes to show ya, you're good enough for mayo and vandy, but not mcg 😕

Yes, that is puzzling, isn't it? I should have applied to Vandy! Oh, wait, I did. And I got rejected a week later.

Bon chance!

Congratulations on the Mayo acceptance!!!

Just rescuing the thread from the bowels of page 4.

On a lighter note, I got my MCG acceptance the day that all hell broke loose and it snowed everywhere in GA except where I live. dd128, I assume you got yours too? I know you'll get in on WL if nothing else, but did you get an acceptance?

Also, anyone know the actual tuition amount per year at MCG? I have Mercer's numbers and I know MCG is better, but I was just wondering if anyone knew offhand.

Nah, no acceptances my way, guess it's looking more and more like I'm going to be hanging out on a waitlist or worse 🙁

Congrats though man 👍 Any definitive preferences on mcg or mercer? I think you're right on costs, mcg is quite a bit cheaper from what I hear.

Dude, I'd be happy to trade you my spot at MCG for your spot at Vandy. They put me on their eternal wait list, so let's give 'em a call and work it out 🙂

The materials they gave at the MCG interview show tuition at $13,550 for MS1 & MS4 and $20,235 for MS2 & MS3 (for GA residents), with an estimated total after fees of ~$17,000 for 1&4 and ~$24,000 for 2&3 (again, for residents)

I heard but i could be wrong that i have a good shot in entering the class with my stats

for anyone discouraged because people that interviewed on the same day as you already heard back from mcg, don't worry too much, there's still chance. i had two friends interview on the same day last year in either january or february, one got accepted in march, the other didnt' get accepted until the end of april. mcg likes to make people squirm.

Hope you're right tredici, I could use a pick me up 🙂

it's a true story, i just left out the part where i interviewed on the same day and got waitlisted the week after my latter friend got accepted. 🙁

i guess that part isn't quite as motivational?

That sucks, was this last year? Are you applying there again?

I had an interview at Mercer in January 10th and am in the process of waiting for their "call." If I remember correctly, some of us will hear back tomorrow. It's crazy.... I am getting really anxious....

yeah, it was last year. it hindsight, i probably shouldn't have applied. i did it late, had a poor ps, lousy lors, etc. fingers crossed for this year.

So I guess that puts you on gap year, tredici? Are you working, playing, or both? I am working part time, but I plan on traveling this summer. Who else is on gap year? I am dying of boredom. The first 8 mo.s or so was refreshing, but since Christmas I can't help but feel that I am wasting my time.

I'm actually with tredici on the gap year stuff. I did the almost exact same thing she did last year. Applied very late had a crappy ps, lor's weren't too bad, but probably not great either. Had my very first interview ever late february, did pretty terrible in them, and was waitlisted. 🙁

So far my time was pretty well occupied last semester as I was doing a bunch of research, but finished with presenting what I did at a conference at the beginning of Jan. Now I'm getting pretty bored as well. I was kind of hoping I would get into mcg, so I could do some traveling and stuff before starting, but instead am afraid I may need to get a full time job. Which in itself isn't terrible as I have always worked before, but really wanted to get started on med school.

Good luck tredici, hopefully we both get in this time around 👍

Also on a gap year, though by choice. I had several people suggest it to me as a chance to take a break from school and get some experience before starting the whole med school -> internship -> residency -> rest of life process. Overall, I'm glad I did it. I work as an EMT for a local 911 service, and I enjoy doing it. However, just as you say, I'm starting to get way too bored. At this point, August can't come soon enough.

in the summer i did a lot of shadowing and volunteering. then in the fall i had two parttime jobs, which changed to a fulltime job while i also did some research. got tired of the job, so i recently quit, and now i'm enjoying my boredom before i start doing something else.

GA in the house!

Previous poster- TYVM!! Also, the note-taking service is accounted for in the cost estimate! That is so funny. My uncle went to MCG in the '60s and the note taking service existed even then!! Funny that such a service has become tradition at MCG.

ALso, recent news, MCG 3rd and 4th years have been phased out of Memorial in SAV and St. Joseph's/Candler will take all SAV ppl. St. Joe's was going to take a 4 year campus over Athens, but they couldn't bring enough Dr.s on board, so now they are going to open up a 4 year campus in Athens within the next 7 years. I personally hope it is at St. Mary's, but if I were in Vegas I would bet it was AAMC. Anyone know if there is a level 2 trauma center at either? There are 4 level ones in GA, one in each of ATL(Grady I think), VA @ augusta, Memorial @ SAV, and MCCG @ Macon.
