I know I might get some criticism for this, but I've been accepted to both MCG and Emory, and wanted some help deciding what to do. I want to make a quick decision to free up a spot at either school for someone. I loved everything about emory and told myself I would go there definitely if I got in. Now that it comes down to it, all I can think about is the huge cost difference. I know money shouldn't be such an issue, but I have to finance myself completely. I was wondering if you think the benefits of Emory override the much greater cost than MCG. To be honest, I wasn't impressed with Augusta and I love Atlanta. I know this should be a no-brianer, but I'm still reluctant! Thanks for the advice guys!

It's not a no brainer at all so don't worry. I know an opthamologist who chose mcg over emory and said he had no qualms about it looking back. It seems tough to think about, but you should go where you're happiest. If you're happier at emory then I'd personally go there, regardless of the cost. Then there is the obvious fact emory is a bit of a better school, so you may have more options when going into reisdency. To me that's almost a minor fact though, you don't want to be going to a school and the only thing you think about is, "man I wish I went to the other school"

It seems like the only thing you don't like about Emory is the cost and I don't know if that's enough of a reason to not go there. But do whatever makes you the happiest. 🙂

I was there on Jan. 23rd.
It's been less than two weeks now.
And from what I've read, MCG sends acceptances by regular mail, in a regular packed envelope, with a turn-around time of at least a month, if you're lucky. 😉

Has anyone toured the Savannah campus - i haven't been there yet - how does it look??

I have been there on a tour. It is surprisingly... ... ..unfinished. The buildings they will be using are old, but they have stripped everything out of them and will be working on them up until August. These will house the fake patient rooms, student center, library, computer lab, and pbl rooms.

The administration is located in the research building, which is very big and nice and has a large auditorium that Mercer will use. All of these buildings are within 100 yards of the ER, which is nice. You can call up for a tour on pretty much any monday or friday.

I know this is the GA school thread and I haven't heard anything about Morehouse. I know that their avg MCAT is around 27 and their students score very well on the boards; they had a 100% pass the last 2 years and their students land some very prestigious residences. So I was wondering if anyone had any input on Morehouse.

Last statement probably true, but keep in mind the reason that us decemberists had such a long turnaround was because of 1) a cancelled meeting in mid December and 2) the christmas holidays.

For the person asking about Morehouse, there is a morehouse thread called (unbeliveably) "Morehouse". Do a search; it is on the front page at the moment and it looks like it has quite a bit of activity.

Yeah they send them after the interview. They're pretty polite over there, they usually even send them to the people who write your LOR's.

Morehouse is diverse they have students from all races and ethnic backgrounds...therefore they are not just an HBC.

what is even funnier is how I found it.

I did a search for MCAT scores over 44 (thinking I might see a 45 profile) and instead there was one profile that came up, it said MCAT score 108,9. Needless to say, I was confused.

And did you do 15? There is someone called LizzyM that is apparently and ADCOM but is running around giving horrible advice about ECs. She says only do 5-10 but make sure they are good. You did all 15, right? I am thinking 13 or more would be fine, but 5?

In absolutely no way was I referring to you has racist. I really don't know where that came from. I ask why no one really has mentioned Morehouse in this thread since this is a GA school thread. I was just trying to educate people who might have not know about Morehouse. True it was found on the the principles to be an HBC but in 2008 their class has a lot more diversity than most major medical schools and I can say this because I have interviewed at all 4 GA schools. Thats all I was trying to say...so if you took it another way I apologize.
