Medical Mission Trip this Summer to Peru

I am Taking the MCATs during Spring of 2016, before I send my applications in.

What should i be getting involved with during my gap year? Is continuing research, taking masters level classes, or working a clinically related job more important?

Should I send applications to MD and DO schools or am I lacking for MD's

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I did the same thing as you! I would say get a job, medical or not medical and really enjoy your time off. Make sure medical school is what you want to do and have a good reason for why you want to pursuit it.

Odd that two posters in a row have this, but for the both of you, I strongly suggest maintaining anonymity on this forum by replacing your avatars with pictures that are not of you (or people you personally know).

Sounds like you got a lot going for you. If you haven't taken biochemistry, you can probably take it as a nondegree student at your school. Med schools I have talked/looking into recommend biochem and lab. I agree with scribe though, you have a year off school, take some time for yourself!

I would also mention username (too late I guess). I went to school with a premed Italian guy who had a very similar name to OP (just missing a vowel). He was nowhere near as involved in ECs as you were though lol!
