Hello Everyone,

I am a recent graduate from University of Connecticut in Biomedical Engineering. I made the mistake of deciding too late in my undergraduate career to pursue a MD/PhD program. So I was unable to prepare adequately for the program in my 4 years. I have been looking into the POSTBAC IRTA/CRTA program to further my research experience. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how competitive the program is? I have a 3.5 GPA and 1 summer research experience and a year-long senior design research experience. I am not sure if this makes me a adequate candidate for program or if i should work as an unpaid research intern at my university for the summer and then apply. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

IRTA here. I wouldn't say the program is competitive, it just fills up quickly and can be very frustrating to find a lab that fits your interests. It's not uncommon to e-mail 50-100 labs before finding an interview, and even then you're not guaranteed a slot. The program seems to be particularly sensitive to timing, most IRTAs/CRTAs leaving for school just as others come out of school, so lining something up as early as possible I think is the best advice I could give.

Thank you sou much for your advise. So when would you suggest one should finalize and submit their application cause its seems there is no deadline for applications.
