Hi Everyone!

So I am a sophomore and am just trying to think about my options in the years to come. As of now my plan is to take the MCAT the summer after my junior year. At the end of that summer so I will have plenty of time to study. Ill then apply the summer after my senior year which means ill need to take a gap year. So after 6 months into my gap year ill have to start paying my student loans. What are my options for this? I am going to be continuing my education hopefully in that following fall and so I would like to put off my loans until after med school. Due to the gap year my 6 month grace period will end.

Please help, what are my options!?

If you have federal loans, you may be eligible for some sort of income-based repayment. If your loans are private, it usually (at least, in my experience) doesn't matter how much money you earn. What you owe is what you owe.

If you're enrolled in classes half-time, you can defer. But I'm not sure what classes you would take at that point.

Ah, yes. My fave subject! 🙂

The only problem here is that it would cost money to take courses. So going that route probably only makes sense if OP has crazy high loan payments that cost more than taking 2 classes as a non-degree student.
